There are SOOO many other accent flowers to use these days...but, ever since we moved to 'Million Stars' or 'New Love' Gyp., we can't get away from it...customers sill request it - by NAME!
(talk about edu-ma-kating your customer!)

Mlou...
Don't you mean 'Baby's Breasts'???

:)

...we really do go through it...in nearly every doz roses that goes out. We TRY to offer other stuff, but the BB goes! Got in 10 bu. this week...usually it's 15.

ditto on the "baby's breasts" (mostly a guy thing wanting it though). After it comes in if it stinks and we have to use febreeze on it, we warn the caller or consumer that it does smell like "liquid fertilizer from the farm" literally. Cow dung does come to mind, kinda like the stuff they spray on fields!! We then offer limonium, monte, etc instead.

Awww, COME ON! It's doesn't smell THAT bad!!! Heck, I'v had worse cat-pee limonium... Just let the stuff AIR OUT a bit! Just like my socks!!!! :)

Ah yes, the real limonium (sea lavender like I pick at the coast) does smell (maggies' drawers is what one wholesaler used to call it) BUT we have some today, gorgeous that smells like GrapeJuice!! BTW, I'd make you put those socks right into the washer! :)

Lol, Rhonda, we must get the stuff from the same place because it makes me sick and I grew up on a farm!! I had one customer beg me to put "lots and lots of baby's breath" and then complained about the smell....go figure!

I had an old man, regular customer, who admantly refused babies breath in anything he bought. He said, "if any baby had breath like that I'd take it to the doctor." :) I was happy to comply.

Limonium doesn't smell great but it's never caused me to get a headache, the area in the office where they hydrate the flowers is near my desk and the smell of baby's breath makes me nauseous.

Well ... smell

Ever wonder why, sometimes BB smells good and sometimes bad?
Ditto for Misty Blue. Cat pee when bad - sweet light when good.

And nothing like Valentines with 20 bunches of each smelling up the place - yech.

We use about the same of each.

We also have standardized on Million Stars or New Love for BB. I prefer the former, the wife the latter. Bot are much nicer than regular BB.

Cheers.

Besides de smell...

What exactly does baby's breath have going for itself anyway. It's ugly, it smells and it completly devalues any bouquet, it's a filler, I don't consider it to be a flower. I've seen funeral arrangements 2/3 full of BB and that just about makes me want to vomit, not only is it horrendous looking but I know the florist has just riped off his customer, well maybe not considering the price we pay for this cr*p. There are so many beautiful flowers and fillers for this matter. I want to boycott The BB with every ounce of me, BUT some (old) people just won't let go. I try to stay clear of it, I actually keep it out of view and smell and I absolutely will never use it in any kind funeral arrangements, ever. It's old school and in floristry, it doesn't suit me.
Thats my opinion for the day.

we stock what our customers ask and pay for. And bb is still a big seller here even though we stock limo, aster, and other seasonal fillers.

To kind of quote JTV ....

every flower has its place and purpose. If someone wants babies breath or leather or one of every colour and kind of flower mixed together .... you please them and do it in a way that pleases you as well. We have customers who do not like babies breath and who do like it. Yes, we still use leather as a greenery as well, amongst other greens we carry. They may be old school but we went back to bell bottoms didn't we!
