Had a consultation with a bride who wants her maids to carry a few regular callas. She would like the stems completely wrapped with ribbon. On a closer look at her picture from the internet, I realized the callas were silk. If we wrap the fresh callas with ribbon, won't the callas seep and destroy the ribbon? Should we be worried about them seeping and getting on the dresses?

I don't think the calls will "seep", they seal over pretty quickly, once out of water, however, I see your concern, so, just a little dab of pan glue at the calla stem tips should sufficiently seal the ends without any repercussions.

I've used clear nail polish to seal the ends.

is that by "accident" or where did you hear of this...it's a terrific idea, something I WOULD NOT have thought of!..and, another "possible" selling feature, COULD BE, that you would "personalize" the brides bouque from the "tips" of her fingers on her wedding day, by dipping her calla tips in her particular nail polish/finish..what a GREAT IDEA!!

I got it from a design video email on working with callas for bridal bouquets that came from Floral Design Institute (I took some classes through them) so I can't claim the credit for it. However, I did use the polish when I did a bouquet and it worked well. If I can find the email, I'll send you the link.

Although Joan is right that most brides either have clear polish or a french manicure........Mikey is on to a great marketing tip......but rather than matching the bride's nails..........use colored polish to match ribbons, dress colors, wedding theme colors, or another color. This is where we need to take an idea and look for ways to make the idea work to fit our unique situations.
