Ok, been reorganizing and found that I have a gazillion bud vases. I want to present a challenge to the experts in FC as they are the only ones up to a challenge such as this. Someone please tell me something new and hip that I can do with a bud vase.

Depending on the type /style of the bud vase-I usually do a cluster of them for a centerpiece for a wedding or party just to get read of them. I have also tied three together and done an arr that way. I HAVE BUD vase so I really don't carry them but when I have to there are some left they are to be used or donated ASAP.

If we answer, are we an expert????

Depending on the quality of the bud vases.....I like to decorate them and sell them as art objects. You creative ability can go wild on this. Wrap with wire, glue on seashells, coins, buttons, etc. Put interesting fabric on them...the sky's the limit.

You can sell these with or without fresh flowers. If you add fresh flowers, it is easy to add another $10.00 to $20.00 for your art piece.

Yes, I would say if you can find a solution to designing with bud vases, you are indeed an expert. :grovel: Would you have any pictures of yours? I like the wire idea and think I will work on that this afternoon. Thank you bunches!

Are you guys saying that you never sell bud vases? If you are, you're so lucky, i'm so tired of them. I sell quite a few each week, with a single rose, carn etc. I know I am from a small town, and that we have alot of eldery on a fixed budget. That is probably why. I do make money on the sheer quantity I send out. My delivery people can even throw together a bud vase when we are behind, they are so darn easy. We also deliver them, but only in town, for the full delivery chg, won't go out of town with one.

Mostly I have them on hand for the local school to borrow. They use them for their banquets and such. I don't really sell many out of the cooler but I just put some wire and beads on one that I am going to put in the cooler and see if it moves. There are a ton of teenagers walking in every day during the summer. They might like it.....

I've began to use cylinder c977 and square vase ss 3366 instead of the old bud vase. more upscale look and looks like more $$.

you can easily embellish these with wire and hanging beads for add on $$

I have not had a traditional bud vase in my since I opened 6 yrs. ago.
what I do have in my cooler...and many of them are smaller cool shaped
pewter, glass, pottery, or even tall shot glasses (that I place a mini cym
or two, call these orchid shots...sell them by the each or sets of two or
three. ) The bud vase "idea" is a good one for the person who wants
to give a small something to set on a desk. People like the keeps of
the tiny vase and they can place their own garden buds.

What do you think of these budvases???

So I saw this thread earlier...

I hate bud vases too, but hey it's the nature of the beast right??

So I made these. Are they any good??

The one of the protea is a close up, cause you couldn't see it in the far away pic.

Yes these are just bud vases. And yes, I'm a crappy photographer!

Depending on your walk in or pass by trade, have you thought of displaying them en-masse on a tray on your front counter, or on a central table in the shop or even all grouped together on a shelf in the window, with either a simple bloom with beargrass, willow or whatever you prefer, or more artsy like a calla wrapped leaf-wrapped along the stem, or a calla with steel grass which has beads of hypericum berries threaded onto it or skeleton leaf or something; or fill them with a mixture of lovely pickings from the garden or roadsidia, any grouping that creates impact. Then price them individually (with or without the vase), and hopefully they will walk out in droves. Anything we display en-masse or in the window (which is always fresh and changed at least 1x/week just sells and sells) Otherwise....got a charity event coming up???

Beautiful Shannon!!!! You certainly rocked those!!!! I am going to try to show my staff those pictures, not that we sell budvases, but I am always trying to get them to think outside of the flipping box!

Great thread Inferno! We should have threads like this more often and see what other basics can be re-inspired! It could be our own meat & potatos (with a twist) design show challenge! I vote for redoing the dish garden/planters next.

While not my favorite thing to work on - they do sell. And as we too are in a small town with a tremendous number of people living on a fixed income, I found by keeping several in our cooler, no one can make the dreaded "Flowers are sooooo expensive!" statement. They are a "little" something that customers will pick up often times when they are buying something larger as well.

I've found an easy trick to increase our profit margin and cut down waste. I keep several bud vases - in a range of heights, styles and such on the design table next to me. Now when I am designing and have the odd flower left over, the "extra" break of foliage or a flower that is broken half way up the stem - I pop them in the bud vases. I price them out and add them to our cooler through the day.

All are interesting, affordable and come from what often times gets thrown away or added to an arrangement but not added to the cost of the arrangement.

I loved the look of the ones Shannon posted. Shannon, you are a fabulously talented designer!

Shannon, do me a favor and price each one. Thanks,

This is not a new idea but may be worth re-visiting. Long, long ago, we used to take ivy bowls and place a bud vase inside. Then fill the remaining space of the ivy bowl with hershey kisses or whatever and then fill the bud vase with flowers. You can also add a plush bear that will sit on top of the ivy bowl. They were really cute.

I used this idea for Valentine's Day back in 2004. We sold several. Probably because it was a great price point with a rose or 2 and then the candy. You can also add in a mylar balloon for an extra sale.
