Hi y'all. I just had surgery on my right wrist on Wednesday. Numbness/tingling COMPLETELY GONE! Left is still waking me up every night. Next surgery March 11th on left wrist, then I'll be Home Free! Yea!! Anyone else had this surgery? I stared at the wall the whole time....couldn't look!

Dorothy,

I never had the surgery. Was lucky enough to "cure" mine with wrist braces at night. So glad you're doing well!!

glad to hear that you had good results. My mom has to have both her wrists done too. She's having the right one done on March 18th. She's in alot of pain. I'll let her know that you had great success!

Let your mom know that for me my hand swelled up a bit for a couple days and turned a bit blue, but by the third day the swelling had gone down and I've had full movement pretty much by Day Two. I already can see how hard it will be to NOT lift anything for 6 weeks! But I'm going to follow doctor's orders. I was told to stretch out my fingers immediately after surgery and five times at least during every waking hour. Every day I've been able to extend my fingers a bit further.

I've had carpal for about 15 years but wasn't formally diagnosed until 2005. At that time the surgeon said whenever I got tired of living with the problem to just let my physician know and things would get booked from there. There is quite a waiting list for the surgery. I could have had it done last October but the recovery time on each wrist is 6 weeks and I thought that was too close to Christmas and I was worried I wouldn't be able to work. So, I rebooked to have them done in Feb/March. I hope to be fully recovered in time to help at Mother's Day.

Aside: after I had my last child in 1995, both wrists were so bad I had to have someone else burp my baby from day 1! That's how bad it got. I did find that water retention made it worse. Also, cleaning flowers, lifting buckets and writing orders at busy times at the flower shop became increasingly difficult.

An unscrupulous chap..

Hairdresser on my block, kept up the pretence(sympathy from all)that he had Carpal Tunnel syndrome(he was a shiester(sp) out for insurance monies)he wandered around complaining all the time how his job was ruined, his arms held up like Edward Scissor hands(how apt)he kept this up for a good 3 years milking the sympathy and quite a bit of sickness benefit...thankfully his claim was turned down....he was cured pretty instantly after that,no surgery no braces no nothing(horrid chap)he's back working and has not mentioned his bogus illness since.......some people will stoop to anything and he was one such low life,im glad yours is on the mend, and only wish someone like this hairdresser could actually have borne just an ounce of the discomfort you have been through with this illness...seldom someone grates me so bad, but this chap did and your post brought it all back..may the fleas of a thousand camels infest his pants..

Dorothy-

Hope your hand/wrist heals quickly! Thom and I were at a flowers show the other day and saw a booth for a heated computer mouse (warmme, warm mouse) that is supposed to help with arthritis, carpal tunnel, etc. So, your time on flowers chat can be now viewed as therapy!!

Dorothy,

I never had carpal tunnel until I had my triplets. I thought it was all the lifting all day, and probably not keeping my wrists straight while doing it. Never thought about the water retention adding to the problem. I think you're on to something there!

Had the second/last (left) operation this morning. Can't wait to be "whole" again. This one took only 7 minutes to complete and then stitches! Much easier (psychologically) this time than last one. Moving fingers and hoping to keep swelling down. It's a real pain not being able to lift anything AT ALL for six weeks - 3 weeks still to go on right wrist - but it's paramount to follow doctor's orders to a tee. Can't even cut anything softer than mushrooms with right hand. Exertion of any kind=not good recovery. Man, you just don't know how important your limbs/appendages are until you can't use them to full capcity! Now typing with right hand only..... laundry, vacuuming, sweeping the floor, all in plain sight!!! *sigh* I need a maid!
