Do any of you have a good source for purple Cattleya orchids? My wholesaler said they would cost me about $15 each. Sounds a little steep. What's with all these brides wanting wedding flowers from the Sex & the City movie???

15.00 sounds about right......way, way back in the late eighties, when Catts were popular.....they wholesaled in Charleston, SC for about 8.00 way back then.

In a case such as this where the flower is so expensive to begin to with, do you do standard mark-up or less? I know this has been topic of previous conversation, but if you were doing a bridesmaid bouquet with 6-8 of these, and had to pay $15 each, would you charge almost $500 for the bouquet? Just curious!

Yes, or more. It's labor intensive and they take a lot of extra care (especially the white). I recommend ordering an extra bloom or two just in case. If you get them for around $12 including shipping (tayamra) if will come to around $500 with a 3x markup and .4 labor.

I posted a pricing thread on a cat bouquet awhile back and here were the opinions: http://www.flowerchat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15652&highlight=martha

I agree....whatever your cost..do the traditional markup...they ARE very labor intensive....but a wow factor for sure!
