We have seen lately lots of talk about censorship, political views and some religious views on this board. Did the "comment" on president bush did offend only one person or a group of people?
If it offended a group of people, did only one person spoke out and now looks like a outcast? We all have views on different subject and we all should respect those views even if they are not ours. THe twin tower was a disaster that affected all races. Some of those people where also from Canada. Like Victoria pointed out they where people there from all walks of life and nations. WE ALL rallied together to Raise funds and HELP EACH OTHER.
Now I am asking you to vote if we should keep political and religious comment out of this board? If you are just a reader please participate on the vote issue.
Wishing Merry Christmas, could that be a religous comment?
Did anyone object to Mikey for making a statement about Christmas?
Where does censorship start?
A tough call someone has to do. Sometime we say things without realizing we a offended someone else. If we don't say our peace then the other party won't know if they did. But taking a offended comment that is not directed to them and make it their mission to have it censored is wron in my opinion.
Do you take it personally when talk show host make fun at the President or Prime MInister? A lot of time we would laugh or censor the show by moving to another one.
There is a lot to think about about censorship but let us not forget our purpose on this board, and that is TO HELP EACH OTHER. INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER AS A FAMILY.
ALL FAMILIES MEMBERS will have DIFFERENT OPINIONS WHICH WE SHOULD ALL RESPECT.
WISHING YOU ALL PEACE THIS NEW YEAR...

Here's my thoughts:

This board is open to discussion, agreement and dissenting views. However, there are a few (FEW) areas I won't tolerate crossing the line.

1) Abusive language of a sexual or racial nature. Jokes with some adult content are fine, if posted in the Jokes forum - we are, after all, grown-ups here, right? That said, any post that ventures into denegrating a person or group because of gender or race is not permitted.

2) Regilious talk is ok - I'm a Christian, so I wished everyone a Merry Christmas. If you want to wish me a Happy Kwanzaa, go right ahead - I don't celebrate it, but appreciate the good wishes. While I might not agree with your beliefs, or you with mine, I think we can get past that, right? I would request that if people want to have an involved religious discussion, please keep it to the Private Messaging System.

3) Politics is "open season." Probably best kept in the "Social" forums, but occasionally talk of government will come up in business conversation. Let's try to be reasonable and avoid "moron" comments, or anything that's too broad (dumbass NDP). Be specific about issues, laws, personalities or quotes.

Please remember, also, that you all have the "Report this thread to a moderator" option at the bottom of each post. If you see something bad, report it and we'll deal with it.

I concur with Ryan....100%

Have a nice day ! and yes, there may be someone that takes offense to that even :)

Every once on a while I will listen to Rush on the radio (and I have to admit that even if you disagree with something he says at least it is entertaining). Well one time I turned on the radio and some of his listeners were calling in upset because he was at an event and talked with Mrs. Clinton and didn't try to nail her to the wall with qustions and such. His response wat that it was a social setting and was neither the time or place for political rallying. They both knew that their views were different so they talked about other things and had a nice conversation.

I think the same should apply here. If someone wants to talk about political views or a political leader then they should have a right. But, considering this board isn't really the place for that people should show the common courtesy not to say or express something contreversial that has nothing to do with why we are here at the board.

For me I would have never thought to have put something in my signature about Canada's Prime Minister goofing up on a speech for the simple fact that I believe that it would be disrespectful to the Canadians on the board.

But that is just me.

I've given this some serious thought!!

I voted in favour of NO politics or religion!!
I am the FIRST one to offer my opinions, HOWEVER, this is a discussion board, and NOT a firing range, and IF you wish to make comments on someone's race, creed, colour, religion, or political beliefs, post it to floristboard.com!!
We have something VERY SPECIAL here...there WILL NOT be any outcasts, or "islands" set adrift.
It stands to reason, that we offer differences of opinions, that on our own, we are strong, as a group we are formidable force.
Faction and splinter groups belong in Al Quieda...where they will be hunted down like animals, and brought to justice, NOT here, where we all doo the same thing, with different eyes.
I DON'T believe in "censorship"....I DO believe in thinking BEFORE shooting your mouth off...goes for me too...I hope for ALL of us too!!
Come up for air, and keep this the great board it is...
Mike

I look at it this way, at least as far as old "W" goes. He put himself in the public view when he entered politics. He has not been able to figure out how to deliver a speech with out making the blunders that he makes. The quotes on Ryans tag line are not made up, they came from the horses mouth. So..... If he is going to spew forth then he should expect the consequences. After all ole Billy boy Clinton is going to be known forever for his transgressions, "W' just does'nt want to miss out :p

I voted in favor of "NO POLITICS OR RELIGION" for many of the same reasons posted above. Like GLFORAL said, it is not good to post anything disrespectful to Canadians (or Americans.) Also, like Mikey said, this board is "very special" and not a "firing range." Politics and religion can be devisive issues, especially when made sarcastically or with great insensitivity. This board should remain a friendly exchange of ideas and comments.

That's why we're posting this political crap here and not in the floral forums?
"W" is FAR from being the brightest bulb on the tree, and in the puclic eye, well darn, that's what you get when you choose that I guess. Poor George.
Ryan PLEASE keep posting those misquotes. They're very amusing.
Chris Rock said - "I'm a lot more afraid of a President that NEEDS a BJ than one who has just had one."
I say - I'm very afraid of "W"

"Unfinished family business" Not much to do with ending terrorism...

You know, September 11 may not have even happened if Bush hadn't been MADE (not elected) president...think about it.

Thanks for the support, and the dialogue.

But, as Mr. Bush said in Florence, SC, on Jan 14, 2000:
"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

Clearly, there are more important issues than censorship on a bulletin board ;)

Gads I LUV you'all...

yer the cat's ***...can you imagine if we were the true guiding light of the world's horizon??
Some things will NEVER be the same, let's hope we don't forget our lines...

Cencorship is best left to the communists goverements and those supposed "moderate Arib" countrys that have no history of what a free and democratic society really is. It is not the fault of free, democratic, and primarly Christen countrys, that Fundimentalist Muslums are so lacking in their own faith that they cannot face down the temtations the devil provides and still prevail through peaceful means and accepted forms of ministering.
Lets face it, it's not the fundimentilists Christens giving Sermons about taking a one way trip to Hell by bus or plane. And it's not the Western Democricies paying rewards to the families of Homicide bombers either.

Bloomz, in some ways you dissipoint me with the suggestion that 9/11 may not have happened had W not become President.
If you really look at the timeline of events leading up to 9/11. You would realize that the plan to make the attack against the Twin Towers was made well in advance of W taking office. And by all accounts, all the political rettoric and polling data avaliable to Bin Ladden would have suggested to them that Mr. BORE would win the election. Considering Mr. Clintons anemic responces to the other terrorists attacks against the USA. It would be hard for anyone in Bin Laddens position to think anything all too dramatic would happen. Especially attacking their home base in Afganastan. I mean, they only beat the Soviet Union right. They were right next door. What in the world was the USA going to do from 5000 miles away. They must have thought that they were all safe and snuggily over there.

Now ol W may talk like hes got a bag of marbles in his mouth, you know the old saying, like Father, like Son. But it still doesn't take away from the fact that he knows who the enemies of the western democracies are.

As insensitive as it may sound, Al Quida has a death wish to get to heaven. We should do all in our powers to help them obtain their goals. Along with all their little helpers and enablers.

If you don't want to talk politics arround here then thats fine and dandy. however lets not all put our heads in the sand and pretent the problems will just go away. because they won't.

However politics will be playing a role I suspect in the upcomming holiday. With Venezuela offline in the distribution of petrolium. Saudi Arabia being a relucent partner (Wabbabism), Potential disruption of mid east oil or a scorched earth policy of their respective oil fields. Coupled with the prodigious consumption of avaiation fuel by US Aircraft. The industry could find a real squeese on jet fuel to lug all those roses arround.

And with that happy note, I'm closing this thread. We've given the poll enough time.
