A comment by Ricky in another thread got me thinking about this.

So does anyone know anything more about this?

I've been hearing about this for about 2 years now.

I hear it will be a prerequisite to AIFD certification.

What I don't know is how long it will be before this CFD program is implemented.

A WELL respected AIFD member told me sometime ago that it will take 4 years to get it all worked out, but that was her opinion, and she seems to know her stuff.

seems AIFD is ever changing it's rules and regulations and certification requirements. Seems it's harder and harder to become AIFD. And more and more expensive. I sometimes wonder why it gets changed up so much. That's just an observation, not a criticism.

Shannon,
I believe this is a new program from Michigan State.
If you did Colorado's Certifed Professional Program, it's also accepted by AIFD. It's actually about the same program, also accepted by AIFD. You would breeze through it. We just had our first inductee ceremony at CRFA's Annual dinner. The first round of CPFs' are Sandi Sniff, Bea Blanc, Denise Capelli, Arthur Williams BJ Dyer, Maggie Binet, Angela Palmer, and myself. Next round starts in January.
The CPF website is
http://www.certifiedprofessionalflorists.com

FYI: CRFA is now called FAR - Floral Association of the Rockies.
New Site to be up and running soon. Waiting for our new logo to be completed.

I wonder if they will accept our Maine Masters program? Will have to get Annie on that one!

Hey Cherrie,
been thinking about this some more. I'm posting this message in here just incase anyone else is interested...

Anyway, What do you mean "accepted by AIFD"?

Hi there,
You might want to check with Ted Buehl from Irving, TX about the requirements to the AIFD certification program. Please check the web site aifd.org for any further questions. Please feel free to PM me, I am working out of town this week but have my laptop. Cherrie program in MI. is nothing to do with AIFD.
Must be another aveneu they are taking to certify designers.
Thanks, Eddie Payne AIFD

I don't know the specifics, but Michigan's program has something to do with a pre AIFD certification. Again, don't know the specifics. Colorado just hosted the National Association of Floral Associations. They talked about Michigan's program as a stepping stone to AIFD. Colorado just adopted the same program. Sandi Sniff at Lafayette Florist has organized and developed our certification program. Her phone number is 303-665-5552. You can call her and find out. I just know that we - Certified Professional Florists , CPF- offers the same benefits as Michigan States.
Also, Colorado Retail Florists Association has joined with wholesalers and growers. We are now called FAR. Floral Asociation of the Rockies

well here is my 2cents worth...I understood that CFD was to be a replacement for all the individual state programs....to be better or as good as each state. That way you could go to live anywhere and still be certified. Not necessarily a prerequisite to being AIFD. :)
Well that would make a hell of a lot more sense!

This would be correct. Sorry, I was misinformed. Got the correct information on Friday. Colorado has just implemented our own Certified Professional Florist program, http://www.certifiedprofessionalflorists.com

Sorry for any confusion.

So, is AIFD going to implement the CFD Certification or not? Will it replace the State Certifications? I was looking to take the NCCPF/SCCPF Certification this year...but if it is going to be replaced by CFD, I think I'll wait.

NAFA is in the process of accepting certified state programs to be included in a national certified florist program. Not sure on what AIFD will do but our Education Chairman is looking into both.
