I came across this idea on a design blog. This company sells them for 45 each. The designers sprayed a glass vase with chalk board paint. You could write any message you want on the vase. It would be a cool Valentines vase. I would use a sealer after writing message.

I have the chalkboard terra cotta pots, they are super cute but the chalk smudges super quick. They make delivery messages impossible. Great idea, not so easy to use :eek:face. I have resorted to using them to hold butterfly picks (we write the prices on the chalkboard part). I wanted to try and use them with flowers and a box of chalk for kids in the hospital (luckily, we don't get too many of those?!?!?

Amy, I wonder if you couldn't use Dresden Clear Glaze over the vase to keep the writing intact. It would make it permanent but then it would simply be a personalized keepsake.

I thought about that, but then they are just a black vase with writing on them.

I hate when I find something I think is SO cool and then there ends up to be a snag in the plan!:corky

I also thought they'd make good teacher gifts. Maybe not so much!?!?

The positive part of that is that it is highly personalized. If I were on the receiving end of it I'd love to know the message would never accidentally be erased. You might be able to make that a selling point, that the sender's message would be treasured forever. Anyway, just a thought.

I remember doing a BarMitzvah some time ago, we used chalkboards on the tables. I remember using white felt pins to write words. I remember it working very well, no smudging.
I love Erlene's message never being erased. It might be worth the experimenting.

Yes they have them, but what works well to preserve the message is a krylon clear acrylic spray. That is what we have used in the past. or the cheaper way is that of clear floor acrylic. Found in Home Depot.

Yep, I did. Thanks BOSS. It is in the Products section of the forum from January 7. Our customers have loved them so far...I just tested them, they do smear a little. But here is our version of a solution. Each vase we have comes with its own matching piece of chalk (our vases have colored rims and the chalk matches the colored rims.) Therefore you don't write anything on it, you just give the customer the piece of chalk when they buy the vase/arrangement and let them personalize it when they give it, after it has been transported.

Also since our vases are squareish, you could write on one side and carry it touching the other three sides. But that is a bit riskier.

On my January 7 post about the vases MFT suggested taking leftover Xmas tins and painting them with chalkboard paint. Good way to use leftovers!

You know thinking about this, it would probably be a good idea to spray a primer for plastic coat first, and then several thin coats of CB paint. I just got back from Home Depot and forgot to look, I do remember it is rather hard to find.

A bit of topic, has anyone seen a product like waterproof fabric sewn that you can slip a 6" square glass cube in? If it has not been done yet, just think of the broad market one can create. There must be tens of thousands used every day.

you're welcome! one of my fave links...plus it's an L.A. company....yes a bit biased! ;)

Sarah I have to say that you are one tenacious firecraker of a sales professional! I love how you never miss an opportunity. Pioneer is lucky to have you.

Aww... thank you. You want to know the funny thing? I am not even "technically" one of the company salesmen. I went to school for graphic and web design because I specifically did not want to be come a salesperson in the family business. But in this economy, we all must wear many hats and I am now the family geek trying to find alternative ways to help us stay in business!

Off topic Thom, I went on your website the other night. You events are amazing.

Thank you for taking the time to go to the site! Actually, you don't even need to sign up. Just click where it says "Click Here if You Have Never Purchased from Pioneer before." We don't believe in making people register before they see our products. All prices are wholesale. We create an account at the time a person places their first order, either online or over the phone.

Absolutely, we ship all the US, US properties like Guam, the caribbean and Canada. We have negotiated excellent rates with UPS and FedEx (we are in the top 10% of UPS shippers in the country.) If orders can get up to 500 lbs (pretty easy with glass/ceramics) we ship by truck. We have a few different truck lines we work with, and that saves considerably on the freight.

We have just got in a new line of merchandise and glass for events and weddings. The pictures are being processed right now and I hope to have them up online on Saturday.

Thanks again.
