Ricky, you and I haven't talked in a while. Be looking forward to it. I'll wait on the dog to do it's job.

Since the Chat room was messed up last nght - technical glitch - Anybody want to pop in for a quickie ?

Chatroom test

Ok Folks, Give me about 30/45 minutes and I'll be in the new chatroom and we can put it through it's paces and see if it is indeed up to snuff.

So how'd it work? Everything looked to functioning when I popped in late in the afternoon.

Well, The new chat software platform worked well........for what it is........which is a basic, no-frills, java based chat. Only one 'bug' reared it's head last evening while pfmflowermarket and I were chatting. This seems to happen in most any chat platform I have used.......from the old WEBTV chatrooms to Talkcity to Flashchat to now......and that is the 'boot'. For some reason, the software logs out a chatter, often times in the middle of a chat, for no apparent reason. If the chat were a moderated platform.......like Talkcity chats used to be, then the moderator controlled who got 'booted' out of the room.

Those who liked the options to 'personalize' Flashchat don't have the options with this platform that they had. I could not find an option that let you change the background to anything but a default white. There did not appear to be an option to change the color of your text as the default colors are black for the text and blue for the user name. You can still bolden the text and choose a font typeface however. The avatars that spun around, wiggled in some way, and the little smileys are not in this chat platform.

Now, unlike Flashchat, this new platform does NOT appear to have any type of 'censoring' as I typed some rather off-color words in various fonts, combinations, varied spellings, and the like just to test and everything appeared just as I had typed it.

I will say that this particular chat platform software seems to work best when the user has a hi-speed, broadband type connection, like a DSL connection......it appears that a slower or a dial-up connection sees more problems.

Overall, for what it is and what it is designed to do, the new chat software platform did very well.

Thanks.... any customization available will not be using the trial version of the platform. That would have to wait until we purchase the software.

Likewise, the dictionary filters have to be *taught* what words to disallow. Not available until the full version is purchased.

We've updated again to try a new chat platform. As with the last, this is a trial version of a commercial platform. If we like, we buy - and buying = more users, more control, etc.

Well, I'll try the chatroom later on..........Hopefully one or two others will be in there so we can give the platform a good workout. Will let you know what works and what does'nt.

I'm in the chatroom now......I think

Ok, Overall, the new chat platform is nice.......Quite a bit of fun features.........including a handwriting feature where you can use your mouse as you would a pen or pencil to try and handwrite your text. Another fun feature are 'flash emoticons' - You 'send' one and when it is clicked on.....a little mini-movie animation appears in the chat window.

You can customize your font and typefaces, sizes, and colors - The only downside is you had a very limited choice to background colors.

We had three people in the room - Seasonals, Concord, and myself.

Again, it has to be something with chat platforms in general........because Concord was typing a statement and no sooner than it posted than boom.....They were 'booted' from the room.

The random booting issue needs to be resolved somehow.

Actually you had four... :) Even if just for a short time, it still counts.

I liked the format. It was easier to keep up with conversations.

Thanks for the feedback, Ricky. Are we declaring this one a winner?

The "booting" issue has to be a connection problem. This chat room is hosted on our server, and is set to never "time out" users. The only way someone can get punted from the room is if they have a blip in the connection.

Blips and hiccups are common in internet connections - even DSL/Cable. Most of the time you'll never notice since a page loads then waits for you to load another page. Online videos buffer content before playing so that the interruptions aren't noticeable ... it's only in a streaming live environment like a chat room where blips are more noticeable.
