I'm pretty excited! I am not a gardener, but I got this idea to grow some tomatoes from seed. I have 12 of them!

Nothing better than home grown tomatoes....where's the drool smilie...

Lovely! And you are right that the home grown tomatoes are much better than the ones you can buy in the stores.

don't pick them until they are really red.

allowing a tomato to ripen on the vine will make the fruit sweeter.

do you know the variety?

Robin, I'm so jealous! We only have 4 tomato plants this year, but they haven't done well AT ALL. Last year's were so much better. I don't know what happened... maybe the summer hasn't been hot enough.

I don't remember...it said Beefsteak but I don't know if there was more info. I just bought a packet of seeds at a garden center. Do you grow tomatoes or are you sick of growing things after a long day at work?

It was total beginners luck. I never the memo that florist=gardener, though people constantly ask me garden questions. I always refer them to someone who knows something about what they're asking.
I don't even like gardening much but occasionally like to mess around and try stuff. I also have moonflowers that I grew from a seed, they are doing well but no flowers just yet.

I have gardeners who buy my plants and then give me tomatoes.

I am loaded with cucumbers right now... Tomatoes are pretty good.

I actually grew a few tomatoes in the greenhouse. Just dumped them last week. We got a pretty decent crop from them, but now I need the space.

Same way with the peppers.

I prefer Fried Green tomatoes myself....
