What the hell! More like WTF!!!?? No reason to ask "what were they thinking"...it's becoming obvious that they were NOT!

Some of you may have seen the news story about the numerous runners collapsing during the event, and even one runner dieing. Lack of water and Gatordade... lack of WATER stations???? Again WTF!?

The runner that died, Chad Schriber, as was mentioned on CNN, was a Michigan Police Officer, what they left out was that he was a Midland, MI Police Officer, a friend of mine, and one of the nicest guys you could hope to ever meet. Chad and his wife, taught at our church and were very active in the ministries.

Senseless....

Oh! What a shock! Boss, I am so, so sorry for the loss of your friend.

My condolences to you, his friend, and his family as well. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I was shocked to hear about this - I heard of another marathon with the same results this weekend, but don't recall where it took place. Another death, and scores of people collapsing.

What a senseless shame - I'm sorry for your personal loss, and your community's loss.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, you and your community along with his family will be in my thoughts and prayers, Tina

Mark, a da mn shame and I'm so sorry for the loss of Chad. Stupid all around.

Just my opinion....when a big name sponsors an event...nothing can stop it. Living in Chicago, we knew all week that the weather was going to be an issue. But being that there was a corporate sponsor who had their name on the line...the show must go on.
That being said...the runners had the choice of participating or not. The race was stopped midway through and the runners again were given a choice of whether or not to continue. Sometimes our drive gets the better of ourselves and we think we're invincable.
The loss is terrible and I'm sure everyone in Midland feels the pain.

Mark, so sorry about the loss of your friend. It seems sometimes when we are caught up in the "action" we forget our sensibilites...I am amazed daily when I see folks running at high noon down here, looking like they are on their last leg and it's 90 degrees. Sometimes we just don't think...again so sorry for your loss, I know you are feeling awful over this because you can't fix it. My heart goes out to you, his family and your community.

Holly, I think the issue is there was no water available to those who chose to run. That's inexcusable to me... don't care who is running the show.

The water thing is a puzzle to me, this was the umpteenth running of the marathon, the question of how much water should have been figured out years ago. Perhaps the first runners through used more than usual? I'm not sure. No doubt the whole situation was tragic. But sporting events are driven by the sponsors, the participants and the spectators...the show will always go on.
Side note, I heard yesterday on CNN that a heart attack is what killed the gentleman and "it had nothing to do with the marathon". Not sure I can believe that, but for what it's worth, that's what they're reporting.
