Cathy, I know you have experience with these but I would appreciate imput from anyone:)

I have a dog grooming company that wants to send one to one of their customers and I have NO idea how to get started. I have tried to make them before and they end up looking like, well, a mound of mums with eyes ;)

Any suggestions on how to make this work? It is for tomorrow, the 17th. Any help would be very, very much appreciated!!

Thanks!
Heather

I made dog flowers once and took them to a benefit dinner... everyone loved them. I kept the pictures from FC up so I could keep checking. I started with the 'body' and greens along the edges, then did the legs and tail (like the pup was laying on it's belly) angling the flowers down so it looked more 3D. Last I did the head and ears so they were about 3 inches higher than the body and filled in a neck. I spayed mum buds black and glued them on for the eyes and nose and a pink one for a tounge. I put shoe string bows on the ears using long wire so they would reach the oasis. Hope this helps...

Iggy,

How many pieces of foam are we talking? I was thinking I should use one for the body and then secure another half for the head. But, I didn't know if securing it with hyacinth stakes would be enough. Ugh, I love doing cutesy things but sometimes it takes too much brain power ;)

I have made small dog flowers (a head hanging over the basket) with white mums. The dogs may look like a pile of flowers until you add eyes and a nose.

I glue on stuffed animal eyes and nose purchased from Hobby Lobby, then add small ribbon by the ear.

Start with the legs hanging over, 2 mums each
2 or 3 for body
Then put your nose mum in, it should be sticking out furthest
build the face around the nose
2 for ears

email me, if you would like a picture

Felicity, sorry this is probably too late, but I use 1/2 a block of foam and just made the stems longer for the head/neck/ears. The body and legs were a bit flatter and nestled right in the basket. The greens along the sides of the body were a bit longer so it look like the dog was lying in the lawn. I used carns, cushions, and button pomps for the body and legs, a carn for the main part of the head, large cushion for the nose and small cushions for the ears... filled in the neck with cushions and button pomps. It looked like a poodle or one of those shizus (sp?) when it was done.

That's okay CHR. I ended up scrapping the idea of using mums as the eyes and nose..you just couldn't tell what it was. I ended up doing surgery on an old stuffed animal I had at my parents house (Thanks for the idea Theresa!!). Oh the things we do for our customers!! It ended up looking more like toto but it was cute, lol. I ended up using the big puffy cremon for the ears. Not my finest design work but, it was cute.

I didn't take a pic, I was too busy shoving it out the door so we could get it there on time :(
