Well I am hosting Christmas Lunch again this year and I thought I might do something a little different and do a Turkey in the Weber this year.....Fingers crossed it will work out and it is actually edible:)

Anyway - Christmas to me has always been about Cold food - Prawns, Salads, Bugs, Crabs, maybe cold ham etc etc - When it is so Humid the last thing you want to do is sit down to a Hot Meal, let alone cook one, so I figured that at least cooking the Turkey outside would be ok to keep the heat out of the Kitchen. I think I will still serve the other stuff too....It wouldn't be Christmas day without Prawns..! Oh and a cold beer.:beer( can't forget that)

So - I'm just curious what others have for Christmas Lunch??

Oh - and anyone have any ideas on what to stuff this bird with?

Bugs, huh.....?

You did say bugs, right?

yumm

Don't stuff the bird if you're putting it on the bbq. My brother does his turkey this way every year... even if it's snowing. He makes the stuffing separately and cooks it in the oven. It's all delicious by the way... and juicy.

I so wish heat was a concern for me at Christmas time. The HIGH today is 23 degrees F. BURRRRRRRR

I HATE the cold, I was born in the wrong part of the world!!!!

Good luck with your turkey and have a wonderful Christmas!!

I have to say warm Christmas dinner with cold outside suits me fine. I only go out when walking back from the pub at lunchtime where we all meet for drinks and then the jack daniels has warmed the cockles anyway.

Christmas lunch for us is a Turkey Crown with stuffing, roast potatoes, steeped peas, carrots and turnips mashed, sprouts (my favo), mashed potatoes, pigs in blankets, with lashings of gravy. Cranberry and apple sauce to compliment. Topped with a bottle of champagne and a toast to the family.

Oh and to start we have pate on home made melba toast and caramelised onion chutney.

To finish we have a choice of home made christmas pud or homemade chocolate pud with tons of cream.

I have no idea why i struggle to loose weight lol

Gee Palms, your dinner sounds glorious. I miss those days. By the way, in the past what you serve was on our sideboard too.

love to do the turkey on the barbe. We add an Italian (oil base) salad dressing for taste. I will pour it into the cavity and then make tiny slits along the breast bone carefully separating the skin from the breast meat and pour dressing into the pocket.

We also cook the bird breast meat up.

by the way what are BUGS??

Bugs are a seafood -- like crawfish--very tasty.

Karly, don't stuff the turkey, and remember, it will take a long, long time so use low heat to get it done all the way through (and use a meat thermometer). Finally, if you use any wood for smoke (which is really good) the meat will look pink even though it is done--so again, use the thermometer.

So don't stuff it huh? - Thanks. Starting to think I may being a bit ambitious... I just like to do a different thing each year, last year I did Chicken Breast rolled up with a Craisen stuffing..they were good. Now I'm worried I'm going to "stuff" the Turkey

Yea - You all read right - BUGS. Moreteon Bay Bugs to be exact. Twilla actually ate a bug while she was here. Must admit they do look like little prehistoric Creatures but they are very very delicious - although she probably didn't appreciate the taste as there were Probably " condiments" smothered all over it..:poke:

Now I want to know Palms what the hell is " a pig in Blanket"??? and sorry - Mashed Turnips don't sound like my cup of tea.. ;)

ha ha at least i know you read my post, i was wondering when someone would ask. They are chipolata sausages (very small sausage) with bacon wrapped around. They are vey yummy and for some reason have appeared on Christmas dinners around here for quite some time. The turnip is mashed with the carrot, not till its soppy though. You should try it honestly its really lovely.:)

So here's what those prehistoric creatures really look like.

eeeew. I feel a vegetarian mode coming on! But I'm really squeamish when it comes to meat/fish/etc.

Look like lobsters with no claws...........

Except for the pigs and the melba toast, you described our Christmas dinner, just add some mince pie/tarts, and hard sauce on the pudding, some butter short bread and of course Christmas crackers!

Every Christmas Eve after we close we do a BBQ steaks & a nice Wolf Blass Shiraz..............

I'm getting hungry..........................

I love mashed turnip. And piggies in a blanket and all that great stuff Hugh said too. Yummy.

Ummm...I'll pass thanks.

I don't like escargot either - they remind me of slugs without the shell. Yuk! BTW: have you ever stepped on a slug? One of the grossest things in the world!!!

I think Slugs are our State Animal (or critter). haha Unfortunately, I have stepped on waaaay to many of those guys..very similar to stepping in puppy poo. We grow 'em really big in the woods!

I love escargot... but without the cheese... just a bit of lemon butter and I'm a happy camper. Oh, and smoked oysters make my taste buds sing the Halleluia chorus.

On the other hand, raw oysters... boogers on a half shell makes me gag.
