I recently uploaded on my blog a guest post by the lead SEO for 1800flowers.com, Jordan Glogau.

His interest in posting on my blog is related to reinforcing how important it is to claim your local listing.

If enough florists respond to his post he will do a step-by-step detailed post in an effort to help florists through the local listing process. He will also cover the point that local florists need to continue to check on their listing or else you risk losing an important source of business leads.

Any way, the blog post is here and titled "CLAIM YOUR GOOGLE MAP LISTING" by Jordan Glogau of 1800Flowers.com

I left a comment...like to pick this guys brain a bit more.

It could be good to get a new step-by-step. When I blogged about claiming your listing in September I referenced a few guides on the different local services, but Google Maps has updated their process since then.

Mac -

FYI we broke the story about the hijackings in the Real Florist blog and Mike Blumenthal was kind enough to credit us. The whole issue was brought to our attention by LJVF here in FC.

If you look at the last comment from the RF Blog page you'll see that Rosita's of San Diego (a hijack victim) is still suffering effects from it.

I had a chance to speak with Jordan Glogau a couple times - once in a conference call with Mike Blumenthal and some of the florist victims and once regarding 1-800's follow-up on the OG who received some of the ill-gotten traffic.

Clearly Jordan does a very good job for 1-800 as an SEO and he also helped make sure some of the hijack issues were brought to the attention of 1-800's senior management.

I hope more florists take the time to claim their local listings.
