I'm doing a June rehearsal dinner. Clambake with cuban band, in a tent, red-checkered cloths, 130 people, round tables, wants casual New England look. I have a big, big wedding the next day so I want to keep the rehearsal dinner flowers somewhat mindless in mechanics. My client (a swedish man with a rather s*xy accent :hammer:) mentioned using just hydrangeas. I want to spice it up a bit. I've got a mental block because I don't gravitate toward red-checkered cloths. Open to any color palette. Wholesale cost of flowers - no more than $20.

We once used a mason (canning jar) as the vase. Dropped in a hydrangea to act as the armature (its early, I think I'm spelling it wrong.) and then top dressed the hydrangea with orange lilies, sunflowers, lots of different grasses, caspia, larkspur - kind of "everything but the kitchen sink" sort of arrangement. But we only used one on each flower. That made it look very gardeny and casual. Perhaps you can suggest using blue and white checkered table cloths - blue feelings more beachy to me. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Whitewashed clay pot - let the terracotta show through the messy washed paint job or buy pre-painted. White hydrangea artemesia /dusty miller, maybe some variegated lily grass and/or bear grass, with or without wide open sahara roses ...... With those tablecloths, and a New England look, my best guess would be to keep the flowers neutral and get some textures and subtle color with gorgeous greenery. I have Huchera/Coral Bells in my garden with these terrific burgandy/red leaves that I would use for this ... I use them all summer in smaller arr's.

good luck!
