Many professions and professional organizations have a code of ethics. These function to provide generally accepted guidelines as to what constitutes proper vs improper behavior.

The Hippocratic Oath, The Ten Commandments and The Boy Scout Oath are examples.

It seems, however that there is no generally accepted Code of Ethics for the Floral Industry. (If there IS, I am not aware of it -- and that's kinda the same thing.)

Without an accepted Code Of Ethics, we either rely on OPINIONS (that vary) and LAWS (that seldom cover DOGS).

I think we all have encountered situations wherein something is LEGAL, but is just plain WRONG. So...

Attached is my "cut" at a FLORAL CODE OF ETHICS

If this is like most things that I write, I have either MISSED something really obvious OR put in something really dumb. (Sometimes both.) Consequently... PLEASE provide suggestions for adds and deletes.

In a few days, I plan on posting the final result on my website -- and posting it in my shop.

Wouldn't it be nice if other shops did the same thing?

Gee! Maybe some Florist Organizations might want to adopt something like this also. Maybe even SAF?

Sounds good to me, now if we could just get all the flower shops in all the wrld to know about this and/or follow or embrace it we wuld be doing the world some good.

I'll have to find the exact wording.....I could not put my hands on it right away.....but we AIFD members have a code of ethics that we have to adhere to.....or we risk losing our membership priveledges.

Yes. Please share with the group. I suspect it would add to everyone's experience level.

Thanks!

I hope this next statement does not imply or sound elitest or snobbish in any way.

As of late there have been quite a few discussions about good and bad employees - what is and is not professional - and other related topics.

Knowing that we AIFD members HAVE to adhere to that Code of Ethics or risk losing our membership priveledges........If you have had a history of unsuitable employees, You may need to tighten your criteria for hiring to include some sort of professional certification in order to be hired.
