Please tell us what info you would like to see posted about each florists...

Pam,

That's awesome news!! My wife is due to deliver our 6th generation the first week of the new year. This makes 3 Canadian flower shops I know that are 5-6th generation. Barber's in Belleville is not in their original location, but they are a few years older than our shop. We are same family / location since 1898.

Keep in mind, that submissions to the Blog may not appear right away, and that submissions may be modified or edited for accuracy, spelling, grammer and uniformity with the Real Florist Blog.

For those that do not know about Blog's, there are different servers on the web that handle blog's and everytime there is a post or change to the blog signals called "Pings" are sent out to notify the servers that changes have been made. In the few short days since we released the Blog, there has been quite a bit of search activity...

The Real Florist Blog will be available to both Real Florists and consumer alike. We will be adding "How to's" and "Care Tips" and consumer content, as well as the already mentioned directory.

The Blog will most likely reach more florists than FlowerChat as people search for different information. And FlowerChat access is limited to industry participants.

explain

Please....if I am a consumer surfing the net for a florist, how does the "blog" show up to them.....will everybody's listing be there or only the one that is in thhe area they are looking for. And how will it reach other florists???? Thanks.....

For right now, the Directroy is only open to FlowerChat members. If more than one florist from the same city is a member, the florist that was the first to join FC will always be listed first, then the next and so on.

The consumer will see the complete list, once we get more competent on the software used for the Blog, we will add a search feature to the Directory.

Reaching other florists: The Blog has key words just like a web site, when florists are looking for industry related information the Blog will be included in various search results. Blogs show differently than web sites do, and alot of folks that search blogs do not necessarily search for web sites.

Blogs are spidered

Sher, first of all, blogs are spidered just like your websites...Google sees and treats these online journals as websites. They also rank in the SERPS...Here's an example: searched on Google for "real florists"...Daily Dirt by PlantAmerica is running three blogs that rank in the top 20 sites

Rank #8
http://www.mygardenguide.com/blog/index.php?show=byMonth&m=02&y=2004
Rank #10
http://enn.com/mgg/blog/index.php?show=byDate&d=26&m=02&y=2004
Rank # 11

Although half of all online consumers have never heard of blogging, consumers who use blogs have become an attractive target group for marketers. We want our share of those consumers and their 100% orders...Blogging will grow in importance, florists should monitor blogs to learn what is being said about their products and services.

In addition to search engine traffic, we will be receiving traffic from other blogs. Blogs have become so important, Google bought Bloggers.com...there are many blog directories that will provide us with traffic...Due to the unique nature of the internet, bloggers tend to cross-link with other bloggers, often creating huge networks of topically relevant links.

The news media now uses weblogs as a valid source of information...A Blog site that wants to allow other sites to publish some of its content creates an RSS document and registers the document with RSS publishers.

With the RSS (Rich Site Summary ) feed and good posts or articles about the floral industry the FlowerChat/RealFlorists blog will become a website of it's own...

Well then.......

All I can say is that "it bloggers my mind". Am I the only one that is having difficulty grasping this concept...I get the idea of it being an information source...but if I put in a search word for "flowers to Fort lauderdale" then according to my understanding, FC would show up and I would then be a part of that..............will Mikey in Ontario show up for that search also......it's ok if he does but if he does then are we spawning OG'S type of listing............

Compiling a list of REAL FLORISTS......

You certainly are not the only one whose mind is blogged .... When it comes to computers, and the internet ... I'm as illiterate as can be. I'm just happy if someone can find my webpage and phone number ..... how it gets there I don't usually understand. Just goin' ta keep greening my dishes and makin' my bows.
