Read a good article last few days and it delt withConsumer protection act that came into effect last july. Here is a brief report.
Ontario Businesses should be aware that under the new act consumers now have the right to:
a. Refuse to pay for goods or Services that they did not request.
Something now we can use against the wire service. THey can't add new charges to our statements to cover things we do not wish to have.
b. THe same protection when buying or leasing services as when buying or leasing goods.
c. Receive goods or service within 30 days after they ae promised in an agreement, or get a refund.
d. Cancel agreements due to unfair practices within one year.
e. Receive written contracts for good or services worth more than $50.00 to be delivered or paid for in the future.
f. Cancel agreements for fitness clubs, dances clubs, or most door to door sales worth more than $50.00 with in 10 days of signing the agreement.
g. Full disclosure about the cost of long-term leases and interest on purchases in agreements.
h. THe same protection for on-line agreements as all other types of agreements.
i. Final cost estimates of no more than 10% per cent of the original agreed estimate for home renovations or moving services.
j. Cancel time-share and vacation club agreements, for any reason, with in 10 days after receiving a written copy of the agreement.
For more information visit the ontario goverment web site at www.gov.on.ca
I am sure we can use some of those rules to fight wire serives or other businesses we deal with.
THis is for ontario businesses. You may want to check your local province about their consumer protection act.
