I have been requested to makean all corn stock & corn casket piece with very few flowers. The man was a corn farmer. Has anyone got any tips for this. The wife wanted a sheaf design, but, the lid is rounded not flat. I thought of using a single bar casket saddle for stablity & I would also have a water source for the few flowers I get to use. I'll post a pic when done. Should be interesting. I'm always up for a challange.

take the corn stalk and break it down into its components.

stem, leaves, tassel and ear.

you don't have to use the entire stalk, just use the upper part - that is a manageable size - and make a mirror image of the upper part of the stalk.

Personally I hate using corn in casket sprays because they are heavy.

to insert the ears of corn, be sure to use 2 skewers or 2 long cowee picks side by side in the butt of the corn. If you only use one skewer the corn will spin.

By a sheaf design do you mean a corn shock? I'd think with the size of it that would not be possible. I know the corn can get heavy in a spray.
Would she go for a fall theme with wheat and cattails and other fall things in it? I've done one with corn, wheat, soybeans, bittersweet and cattails was more of a fall theme than just a corn farmer.
Years ago I ahd a farmer die in the fall I thought they'd want all the fall stuff corn, wheat and soybeans no, they picked 3 doz red roses with his spurs and his calf rope in the middle of it. Never know what people want do we?

Well here it is. Lots of picking. Just a tip - They only wanted a few flowers so I put oasis only in the center area & John Henry foam on both sides. This made it really sturdy for the corn stocks & ears could be wired on & glued. Used the underside of magnolia leaves to cover with.

Nice job! I love the corn stalk ribbon script. For a video store owner's funeral I once put the lettering on film strip made into a bow. The matching arrangements were in popcorn buckets. Love the personalized tributes.

Love it! I'm sure the family loved it. I love when I can put personal things in a casket spray.
Did standing sprays with a golf club in one and a fishing rod in the other one for a service last year.

The ribbon was actually a ribbon the looks like stripes of woven raffia. I'll find out who it's from if someone wants to know. We use it alot on masculine flowers & plants. I also sprayed the script so it didn't look glittery. The family loved it.

The ribbon is from Berwick and it's called "Grasscloth Natural" item number S373924. I saw it in the spray and knew it looked familiar...I just got some in yesterday :)

Love the creativity of the piece. I'm sure the family was more than pleased.
