There must be a way we can use the information from the 'green" posts to promote our shops. What have we got.
****Buying flowers from local growers
****Flowers are recyclable
****We get phone #'s to call b-4 del. so as not to waste fuel
****Customers can "recycle" their vases (save money/be green)
****have customers bring in old vases/baskets for store credit or donations to fav. town charity. (this one works well-I can get 50-60 vases in a month-most are usable)

I'm sure there are other ways florists are promotably "green". What Have I missed?

The question: what is the best way to get this message to existing and potential customes?

great thread idea! must be lots of things we can all muster up
couple of thoughts:
-cutting down on cello or any plastics in general, just being aware as you use it or cut or recycle it as much as possible
-sourcing/using anything that is biodegradable, there must be things on the market to substitute for the plastics etc.
-compost anything you can
-offer something like an eco-wrap alongside the usual shiny giftwraps, eco paper without the bleaching process etc.
-using natural/biodegradable materials instead of big shiny bows to tie eco friendly giftwraps
-finding ways to use less floral foam
Just an overall awareness, small things will go a long way

How about on each of your deliveries, or carry-out bouquets, a card that is placed with the packet of flower food, that lists these ideas & instances of your being green? ((on recycled paper :) ))Kind of a "did you know?" type of card.

Personally, I love to get "useless" info from the businesses and places I patronize - have you ever seen a Zingerman's catalog? Same kind of idea, lots of "tidbits" of info. It makes the company more personal, makes you like them. Even though I have never bought (yet), I WANT to, because it's a cool place.

I also think a simple sign in the window with the triangle recycle logo on it that merely states we recycle!?!?! A low tech way to put the idea in people's head. Also, a blurb on your website can't hurt.

I sent out a note to my monthly house accounts telling them that in an effort to go green we would love to save some trees by either emailing them their monthly statements or merely keep their credit card on file. No one needed to know it was more about getting some green than going green!

Great idea for a thread!!!
