Something bothers me about all the hype about getting your free credit report.

It was not long ago that there were restrictions on getting a credit report and you had to pay for it. Now you can get your credit score as often as you like and it is free.

I suspect that Experian and the other 2 credit reporting agencies are selling our information and making big bucks with their knowledge about our our credit data.

Anyone know why they are trying so hard for us to use their services?

Actually, you can only get one free report per year from each of the three major agencies. Go to annualcreditreport.com for the info.

As for them selling your info, the short list is who doesn't sell your info. Government, utilities, banks, title, and mortgage companies all sell your info.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could profit half as much as these folks do off of your info?

The mention of the word, free, on those commericials causes me to ask, "What's the catch?"

A catch there is... They get you to become a subscriber, do give you a credit report, but usually after paying for some credit monitoring service...

I used feecreditreport.com a while ago...turned out to be not so free. But, I was careful and ended up canceling everything in time...

You get one free per year with no strings whatsoever. It is federal law if I remember correctly.

Freecreditreport.com is not free. Annualcreditreport.com is. You can also go direct to the big three sites and do it.
