Just wondering what you would charge to do a 2' x 3' aerosmith logo.

I am figuring I will need to use 135 red carns, 10 red mini carns amd between 8-10 bunches of white poms....

I have attached the logo.

By the way, I am thinking 250-300...

Don't know what your wholesale costs are. But, here's some math I did based on my costs @3.5 mark up Carns 150 @.30=160, 10 bu minis 3.00=105 10 cushions @2.5 =87.5. Sheet of stryo 10.00X2.5% =25. Grand total w/out labor=377.5. You'll need to charge around 450.

You could do it for 250-300 if you just do a white background and do an outline in red minis only. The red carns kill your price. Good luck with the piece.

Lori,
Using your estimates - I'm also coming out over $350. I look at other shops who do these types of pieces, and a lot of them use paint to make the shading/shapes, and work in all pomps. Search Google images for "custom funeral flower" and I'm sure you'll see what I'm talking about. Bears, Baseballs, Logos etc etc.

Are you doing just the wings, with the center medallion, or the name "aerosmith" as well? Either way, be sure and take pictures!

good luck,
tracy

I am actually putting Bless Bobby where it say aerosmith...This is for the husband of an old HS friend of mine. He had an aerosmith cover band...I'll make sure to do that search and take pics...

Maybe Felt?

I would use felt as a background, then use carnations on the symbol, we have done something similar to this and I will try to get the photo posted, the feathers could be felt, or you could use actual feathers, then do the flowers as the major focus, we use chenille stems and glued them with oasis glue for the outline, saved a lot on time and money....Good Luck, these are the kind of tributes I love to do, be sure to post some photos.....

To be honest....as detailed as that logo is......to get a nice size that will enable yo to use flowers to get that detailing.......and to please the customer.......I would go to well over 500.00 to ensure you had the dollars to do a really nice job.

Some alternatives that would capture the essence of the logo and present a creative flair.......Copy the log onto a large sheet of red foamcore......cut out the shape......and combine that with whatever instrument he played in the cover band.....if it was bass or guitar, then do a design featuring those items, if it was drums, then build the design on a drum.

If I'm reading Lori correctly she is being generous with her friend... so the price she quoted is likely a bit of a gift during a tough time.

I did charge a bit more than I originally quoted, but the sender is a very good customer and it is going to the wake of my old friend's husband...This is agroup I ran with maybe 25-27 years ago. I do not want to lose my shirt but can afford to cut my labor a bit..

I would also recommend using styrofoam as your base.......and either double easel it by using two wire easels or a single wooden easel. If you are using a full sheet for the base....then I would almost go with the two easels for more stability.

So this is what came out of the custome funeral piece

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Jean the use of fabric really cut down on costs. I would have never even thought to use fabric. Thanks for the tip.

Lori,
nice job - the different sized mums really helped you get the definition to make those tight turns on the design. I never would have thought to use those funky chenille stems to make that writing, great idea!

Lori I will hire you.

Lori when I shake off this mortal coil. I will have my favourite band's name done by you in flowers.

They are the

Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band.

I think they used a Kazoo in there somewhere.

Doug (still kicking, still screamin' still breathing)

You used red felt on styrofoam -- and water picked each flower ? Just trying to get a visual as far as the construction in case we get a custom piece like this in the future.

GREAT JOB !!

I used red felt on styro and then glued each flower head on. No water picks...
