I have dahlias to add to my bridesmaids bouquets. The first batch of dahlias which had the normal stems were all falling apart, so I got new ones today and you could build a living fence with the stalks they are on. There is about a 2 to3 " stem holding the one dahlia at the top of the thick stalk.

The stalks are too thick to add to the bouquets, Do I cut the dahlia off with the 2" stem thats thin and wire on to a floral pick and tuck the three dahlias in the top of the hydrangea & rose bouquet?????

I have 6 bridesmaids and I could add the three dahlias Saturday morning to the made up bouquets but I'm hoping they will hold up for the day.

Help, please.

Thank you.

I think you would be Ok wiring and taping them. Even if you do the day before and keep in cooler. We do it all the time, but havn't tried dahlias yet but I think they would do OK. Also sat. is going to be nice, not too hot or humid in PA :) GL! Post pics, I love dahlias and hope to do more weddings with them soon!

I had to make Dahlia bouts once and they held up fine, wired and taped so you should be OK. Sometimes I bagg the bouquet when there are wired parts , much like a corsage, before it goes in the cooler overnight.

Thanks for all your suggestions on the dahlias. I wired and taped them and arranged them in the bouquets the day before the wedding. Covered all bouq. with the wax tissue and they were nice the next day.
But if a bride asks me for dahlias, I might discourage her and suggest something else. I remember using dahlias before, but the stems were of the norm.

After you wired and taped - did you just insert into the foam (oasis) or would you have to use stem-lock to ensure the thin wire does not fall out? Thanks...
