When I moved into my house in 1974 there was a peony bush (pink) growing beside the driveway under the dark purple lilac tree (the original dark purple tree in this town, originally brought from Baillie New Brunswick by my ggrandfather). For four years, this peony bloomed and the ants were horrific. My husband decided to mow it down from that time on. Well for the past three years, the plant has decided to try to grow again, it gets about 12 inches tall and then dies..hubby mows it then. As of today, it is 17" high with stalks well over 1" thick. Think it wants to finally blossom after 28 years???? This should prove to be very interesting. Maybe it's a sign????

I love peonies... hope it survives the onslaught. ;)

Keep it and move it to a more desireable location.

Plants have amazing resiliency.

After tearing down the old shop back in 1990, the exposed ground allowed for some old Cannas to grow back. The old building was built in 1950 and the Canna beds were there back in the 1930's -40's.

To this day, I still get a couple of volunteer Cannas sprouting next to the greenhouses.

You are aware that the ants are the only reason for the blooming. Peonies need them to open and pollenate.
