I have been asked to supply a quote to decorate a 9 foot Christmas tree in glass baubles, dose any one have this as a service as not sure how many bauble i will need many thanks:)

Hello! Nice to see another florist in England here. I don't supply the actual trees any more for fear of the Health and Safety issues. Trees = fire hazard....and never did supply lights for the same reason... if the client is erecting the tree of their choice I would decorate it though - so to answer your question: the number of baubles you 'll need varies a lot depending on the actual tree - the number of branches and horizontal space between the branches -and is it going to viewed all round? I use smaller baubles at the top and progressively larger ones lower down....roughly a dozen baubles per tier of branches in very open tree e.g. Norwegian Blue Pine, a lot fewer in a bushier tree. Are you planning to attach them with bows on wires...in which case you can make the bows up slipping the baubles onto the wire in advance and save time on site. Are you selling the baubles and/or are you clearing the tree too? If you are disposing of the tree I'd take heavy duty refuse sacks and cut it up on site. Last but not least if you are retaining ownership of the baubles and effectively hiring them then nice quality plastic baubles look just as good as glass ones and obviously you don't get any breakages. Hope that helps!

What you all call glass baubles....we consider standard glass ornaments.....various sized glass orbs of varying diameters.

There are several ways to 'price' the dressing/decorating of a tree.

First of all - Are you supplying the decorations..or are they supplying the decor? If they are supplying the decor, then it is just a per hour labor charge.

If you are to supply the decor.....then you need to look around at various wholesalers, outlets, and Christmas product suppliers to determine prices of the varying items..........you will probably see decorated trees on display so that will help give you a visual of the amount of items you need to consider.......then you always OVER-estimate by about 10 percent the amount of product you think you will need and charge accordingly.

If you are supplying the entire affair........tree, lights, decor........then I would go ahead and decorate the tree in house.......see exactly what you need......then dis-assemble.........transport........and re-set up on site.

You would charge the retail cost of the tree, the decor......labor for installing the lights....and labor for decorating......and a set-up fee.
---------------------------------------------------------

We used to do this at a shop I worked at for many years.......We would have between ten and twenty fully decorated Christmas trees. All of them would be artificial trees ( NOT LIVE/FRESH TREES ). The average retail price of a fully decorated tree ranged from around 300.00 to just under 1500.00. We charged 250.00 to disassemble the tree..........transport it to a residence......and re-set up the tree.

Actually, there is a funny story that goes along with this thread. - This particular shop I worked for was well-known for Christmas Displays. We had one customer.......to say she was loaded would be an understatement.......One year she wanted one of our trees for her christmas party. She lived in a huge house.....the tree she wanted was a wedding tree.....12 feet tall......covered in pearls, lace, maline, crystals, rhinestones......etc.

Well.....She bought the tree......we took it to her house and set it up.......and then.....about a week or so later.....she calls......Thanked us for making the house beautiful for the party.....but she and her family had decided to go overseas for Christmas......and no longer needed the tree.....could we come and get the tree because she did not want to take the tree down when she got back after the first of the year......she said she didn't want her money back because she used the tree for what she bought it for.

So, We went out to the house.......got the tree..brought it back to the shop.....re-set it up just for display.....or so we thought.......Well......another customer comes in and has to have that tree there.......nothing else will do. So, to end the story......We sold the same Christmas Tree......not a duplicate.......the same tree TWICE in one year.

thank you that was very helpful they are supplying the tree i have to go in and decorate with clear glass and champagne colour, like the idea with the bows thanks, also like being able to sell 1 tree twice
