delimea...

Family contacted the flower shop Wednesday afternoon as they were finalizing funeral arrangements for a family member...

They had made commitments with a funeral home for visitation Friday evening with burial services graveside Saturday AM...They ordered four extra large (several hundred dollars) funeral sprays for delivery Friday...

Obituary was published in the paper this morning...

Problem...the family member was on a life support machine, they were going to disconnect Wednesday afternoon...Didn't happen...But it was disconnected today...only she didn't past away... They had been told she would pass within a few minutes...

Now here the florists sits with four large spray ready for delivery...and waiting
.

We have had this happen too. It amazes us that they actually know when their loved one is going to pass. We now wait till the funeral home calls us. I know this sounds bad...but we now wait till they're cold. We have several files (7) on loved ones that the immediate family said would pass any day. There are 2 files that are over a year old and the rest are several months old. Guess they just aren't ready!

BTW Mary Lou...THANKS for getting us up on Ilocalflorist!

:badwords: Makes ya wanna go out and kill someone, doesn't it?!?!?

Hey, Wait a minute....!!!

Yup...and or be connected to your funeral homes in "real time" via the web..works well for us...

Exactly. In my years in that business, we called the flower shops to give them a heads up so they could order product... small town you know.

I'd ask them if they want to pick up the flowers or have us deliver them to a nursing home nearby or somewhere else, the choice is theirs.

When I put myself in the customer's position I would be learning a very costly lesson and would never even entertain the idea of thinking the florist should do anything at all.

I did have an order one time where this happened, but it was just one vase arrangement so she called to say she would be picking it up instead of having it delivered. When she picked it up she told us the story and she never presumed holding us responsible for her error in judgement of ordering flowers before the guy died.

What are people thinking?

Admittedly, the family has made poor choices. I don't think that they need the cost of the funeral flowers doubled to remind them though. This is an occasion that I think you have to eat a bit of it under the circumstances, though I am sure there are some that will disagree.

I don't disagree. Poor judgement can run amok during high stress times. I also call the funeral homes in town to confirm the times... just in case. :)
