My wholesaler has a great prebook deal on white hydrangea for the month of November. I don't have any foreseeable need for white hydrangea in November but was thinking how it might be used in a way that is appropriate for the season and Thanksgiving. I don't believe that white hydrangea is a flower that would make you think of November and Thanksgiving but I would like to take advantage of the deal if I can find an unique way to work it in. Anyone have any great, unique ideas?

I have been taking white hydrangea and turning them into coral/orange for fall. then also a slight touch of 24 karat gold for a little different look.
One thing about hydrangea, they paint very nicely with just for flowers, and don't take on a "painted" look.

Me either, but I still get a box of 20 a week... used two boxes on Monday alone this week... you just never know...

Paying $1.70, by the box, 10 white 10 blue, nice size, 6-8 inches across after they soak up...

Ask him if you book for November if you can get them for December too ;)

These are $1.45 per stem by the box of 20 stems, all white. So it must be a good price. I will experiment with tinting them. They last FORever so I am sure I can work them into regular work as well. I think I will fax that commitment right now.

On that topic of research, systemic dye, I found the following to use the method for drying and pressing flowers. I found it interesting, as I have had brides ask me to dry their wedding bouquets for them but they fade so much and look awful. I wonder if dying in this way first would preserve some color?

yes I did try stem dye on one a month or so ago. It didn't pull up as much dye as say a carns does and the vase life was way short - about 4ish days.

I know flowers will drink better when dehydrated first but hydrangea wilt so fast, so I didn't leave it out of water for a period of time before using the dye.

monochrome arr of all hydrangea, even white hydranges, would look terrific with with wheat, cattails, grasses, seed & funky euc's in a raffia tied cylinder/cube/vase .... mmmmmm classy fall.

Think I'll try that in the last few old TF easter yellow art glass container (ca 2003?)!

hth!

I agree, white does look crisp with fall tones. I also like pastel pinks with fall tones.

White with the fall colors is so in this year...I have noticed a huge amount of white pumpkins and gourds and a larger amount of white mums produced this year....used with butterscotch and the really dark rust it does look nice, I am not a huge fan of white with fall, but with certain color combos it can work...I do not like yellow mixed in with the fall and white...

My thoughts exactly! You could do touches of green and brown jff on the hydrangea as well. Maybe some green poms and hypericum, too.

I challanged myself with trying to use more white last fall, since it seems like as the seasons change, so do the standing order flower colors (and not according to the season). We were always swimming in red/orange alstro at Mother's day and white stock/alstro in the fall. I decided that in order to use it, I would have to put it in one of our specials (since my design staff avoided it like the plague). I know this arrangement is not hydrangeas, but it was very popular on the website. I also love the idea of shades of fall green with white (wheat, millet, hypericum) even with some brown accents.

I have about every color there is now. Do you have any tips for use? I sometimes am successful and others not so much. I have experimented with different flowers. What flowers work best and what ones don't work at all?

Not a tip for use, but we never, ever call it paint. We say tint, a bit of a classier term, IMHO.

just 4 flower

ok this could take a little time. just 4 flowers works good on everthing silk flowers silk greenery,if you have some old silk & greenery sittin around just try some ? say poppy spray on some greenery thats lite green with wht or ivory stripe,it will change it in to a nice fall look. or green ivy, spray it with black cherry. you can change any white flower to any color you need it the time. but for fresh cut it works great on mini callas hydrangeas, right now org mini calla are very high $$ so buy yellow at a mush cheaper price and spray them. use poppy first that will turn it a neon org then hit alittle bit with delph blue to darken it up,look good saves you lots of money. don`t pay big money for pur hydrangea buy blue much cheaper hit it with purple pansy.
