I took an order today I thought (I think) from another florist and gave him 20% as I do, but now am wondering was it a legit florist or an og getting an order back to my city. Shop name-Flowers by Rossi, Joe Cortese name on credit card, Huntington Beach, CA. I seached on internet for this shop, searched here on flowerchat, found nothing. When I called back asking if they had a website,(I wanted to check out their style and do the same for the birthday gal) phone was answered "flowershop", said they haven't set up a site yet. My gut tells me it was a ordergatherer. When you're not proud enough to say your shop name when answering the phone..... Does anyone know anything about this shop? Thanks. Fool me once but not twice!

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, smells like a duck, white like a duck............it's a duck

Yes, I would say you filled for a dog. I've had it happen, but, just remember that they will not be able to keep calling every order out with a cc. They will start upping their "service/delivery" fee, especially if they gather in a state that bans deceptive advertising.

What a crock that search is! Yep, they list quite a few florists in our area, even list the name of the owner. But they don't list a phone number, so the only choice the consumer has is to open another browser to search for a florist by name, or take the easier path of just clicking on that nice Wesley Berry.

Yeah, we've all been victims, I'm not the shaprest knife in the drawer, but I'm not a spoon either, "I'm learnin....." Don't fill for dogs...........

Yes, I think it was a duck! I wish the weasel would eat the ducks!!!

Oh, common now.......where's your OG spirit "we have the delivery platform, so lets everyone walk on our backs" We're supposed to be kissing there...............................Pop, goes the weisel (wrong spelling I'm sure).

Interesting...

Looks great, I mean afterall everyone is being alerted that is a member of this boards.

It will get harder and harder for OG to pull stunts and get away with it.

IMO, getting duped would mean I screwed over. If you get paid you just enabled and OG, or other nefarious entity.

That would be a double donut, if the CC was phoney or doesn't pay.

THanks for the posting, we're all better informed.

In the event that another florist calls direct and asks for 20% discount, I ask them for their tax id number. That way, they don't have to pay tax AND I can get more information. You can have them fax over the tax exempt form to you.

I actually think it's supposed to be the other way around.

If I take the order and then send it out, I have already charged my State and County sales tax. The recieving florist should not be charging more sales tax, and the sales tax is supposed to be from the state where the order originated.

When I RECIEVE an order from a florist, I do not pay any sales tax on it, but I do give that florist my tax number.

If you are charging sales tax on orders you recieve, you are double-taxing the consumer and you do not want to get caught doing that, even if it's un-intentional.

That's what I was saying. If just anybody calls here and places an order, I have to charge tax. If they say they are another florist, they won't get charged tax IF they provide the information. According to our tax laws, you have to have proof of non-taxation in hand. If we didn't get the information and got audited, then WE would have to pay the tax.

Just because someone says they are from another shop, they need to prove it. That was my point.

Gotcha! Thanks Pat.

You know how it is...if I can't prove that the orderer is tax exempt, the state will want their $1.20 no exceptions and, by the way, there is a penalty which is $10 and a late fee of $25 and yada yada yada.....some days, this stuff gets soooo old! :)

You can always... google on their shop name and the town or zip where they say they are located, even when you are on the phone with them.

If they aren't listed, probably not legit. There may be some florists that don't have a local google listing, but that would probably be an exception.

You can also do a reverse phone number lookup on the web. If they are a legitimate company the lookup on the phone number will tell you that.

There are dozens of ways to check them out. You don't have to rush into verifying them either. You can take your time to make sure.

Heck, you can always not deliver their order and really torque them off, if they aren't legit that is. LOL
