Seems to me that everyone bride that comes in lately wants Calla Lilies for their bouquet. Did somewhere a show showed this to the girls and did they think about mentioning price. When I tell them that Calla are about $10. for small, around $15.00 for med and around $20.00 for large, they flip. So I wanted to know how are they all coming in asking for Cala?

Because Martha and the wedding magazines are FULL of them. That and Lily of the Valley.

Makes you want to scream.

Well Martha's magazine are down 86% in ad revenue and I expect within a year will be gone off newstands everywhere. (Provided the DOJ does the right thing and toss her butt in jail)

We're getting calls for mini callas which is just fine $6.50 US/5 and in a multitude of colors which I think is why we're getting calls. Only problem, that price and color selection is in July and first week of Aug here. Now how about mini glads? Have a wedding for next June who wants those in her bridal bouquet.
BTW, our large callas are usually around $2.50 each most $3.00 wholesale.

I wish! We're looking at double that here.

Well G....

here, in the "north" land, even local growers demand anywhere from $1.90, to $3.25 per stem for the mini callas, and from $3.50 to upwards of $7.50 for the medium to large callas, just depending on the demand.
Growing conditions around here are perfect for "frying" over easy eggs, and NOT growing callas, and even the "imports" are not always available, due to the US demand, partly because of Martha (whose butt should warm a jail cell soon), and partly because the demand for flowers like callas and gardenias is cyclical, and because of price, have been out of the loop about 15 years, and here we go again!
And this "Lilly of the Valley" thing is driving us bonkers...now we CAN get Dutch imports...at THREE times the cost, and for these "cheep" brides, that ain't likely!!
We're now OUT of the wedding flower business, will ONLY do them for special clients, and our "base" price is $500.00...nothing less thank you.....
Mike

I like that idea Mike. The base price for weddings and only for special clients. I really don't think that weddings are worth the stress and hassle.....

Luc , check out Ryan's buddies at "flower power" on their website bridal bouquet of 18 callas for $69.99, have an order via the internet for same, priced it out , bride scaled back to 3 calla for that price , cheap as we could possibly do it for.Everywhere you look someone is doing wedding work for nothing and burning the brides, had one last week , had to fix a suppermarket special , they managed to screw up a presentation bouq of roses, not once but twice, poor bride was really distraught, we have thrown away roses in better shape than what she was expected to carry down the aisle, and to top it off the main designer at the supermarket is taking all the weddings that the supermarket turn away and doing them at home for cash. I should report her to Revenue Canada.
