There are special peace lilies that grow without soil?

A customer called to inquire if we sold them. Apparently another local florist told her that she needed a 'special' peace lily to put in her beta fish bowl. I assured her that they don't need to be 'special', the regular ones work fine. She asked me what we do about the dirt.

We wash it off.

Can you believe it?

She's talking about an Anthurium. Blooms are smaller and not as pretty as what we'd use for tropical arrangements.

Walmart sells them in 6' pots for Beta fish bowls.

Obviously the other florist didn't know what she was talking about.

haven't seen the anthuriums...
but we used to sell "special" peace lilies all cleaned and ready to go when the beta fish were big here. And the price for the cleaning was an additional $7.00...........takes forever on some of those plants...

well, maybe she meant special as in cleaned...har har.

Yes, I can believe anything anymore..

yes, and when you do those silly beta and spath, be sure to sell them as "war and peace".

I hate doing those.

Yep, we use to sell a ton. We always have small spath for that reason but they're not special - we just clean them. I think it's a case of the other florist being too lazy to clean a plant (or not knowing how).
