I will be doing 25 centerpieces this weekend for a wedding reception. Glass vase 12 inches high by 8 inches wide, cylinder. 10 tulips totally submerged in water. Had a time getting the tulips, they should be here tomorrow. Tulip was the brides choice. The bride was told by her WC to insist that her floral designer use distilled water to keep the flowers from floating and keep air bubbles out of the water. I have done smaller vase like this with tap water and havent had a problem. But working with tulips could be different. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. :help:

Tulips can get gassy. You can put a small nick near the head to release the air. Good luck

Oh Hevens to Betsy,,,

Ok this is all over the place with folks starting out in the business, and it doesn't matter what type of water, one girl called a few days ago , Was told by her so called planner she should use Pelgrino, yeah what ever,,,before you do anything do a sample, cause some Distilled water with make some flowers slimy,,but if all else fails for regular tap just a drop of vineger will do the trick to kill the gas bubble..

well I hate to beg to differ with the queen but......

I don't know about distilled water. never knew tulips had "gas", but I do know that soft water is a big no no for all flowers.

Just an update. The centerpieces were beautiful. The entire wedding was beautiful and the bride and her parent were very please. Thanks for all of your advice.

Baton rouge has some of the softest water in the country ...

Haven't had a problem with this at all. Do tulips, roses, hydrangeas, etc. etc. submerged.

Also would never use distilled water unless they are paying for it. Our water is the best in the country IMHO. No need to drink over priced bottled water. HATE HATE HATE hard water, when I travel and shower it feels like I'm not getting clean.
