Just read the post from srowe99 about there problems with there domain name and Flower Shop Network.... Got me thinking.... I've had my website with Teleflora for about 9 years... i do not pay a yearly fee for my domain... I remember getting a bill (from a domain name co.??) years ago and called Teleflora, they said that they renew my domain name.... does that mean Teleflora owns it???? //

Seems as if you're the owner with TF in charge of the site if I read this right.

Rhonda this seems strange to me. Does this mean that he opened and paid for a website domain and then when he signed a contract with TF that they took over rights to that sight? It seems that he has no idea, like it is a fine print sort of deal. And, at the bottom it says clientTransferProhibited??? So does this mean he can't get it back. Something about this smells fishy and illegal! Of course, who knows? Internet law is so new and difficult to really get a grasp on. If this is what it looks like then I really think that legislators need to get involved and give florists back their identities because it seems that these big guys have taken not only a lot of undeserved money but literally everything!

long time ago when I had TF, they had registered my shops name. When I left they transferred my name to me and I took the hosting from Network Solutions to Strider (Infinite's hosting company)... It was a painless transition.

It's all above board.

TF controls and maintains the domain registrations for their sites, but they will transfer the domain to the florist at any time. We've moved dozens of shops from TF web sites, and we've never had a problem getting control of the domain from TF.

One thing I do suggest: Don't keep your domain with Network Solutions! Their rates are ridiculous, and service is pretty crappy. Yo can pay them $35 / yr, or pay $10/yr to Strider or GoDaddy.

It's great that you can confirm you own your domain name. But with that said, who owns the domains for "Your Town NJ"?
These are the ones that the WS's generally go after. For instance mine is Royse City Florist. that prevents anyone from getting the domain for my town.

Once someone has the domain for your town, they have the ability and opportunity to shadow your shops listing by coming up everytime a search is done for your town florist.

I'm suggesting, as I always do that you see about securing the domain for Mahwah florist.com, Mahwah flowers.com, Mahwah NJ florist.com...you get the idea.
It really makes a big difference. In my case I'm the first search result and have been for years.

Something else the WS's do is when a shop with the city name closes, they grab up that name.

You can always go to www.whois.com to see who owns any domain.
