I was wondering if there is other florist that charge an extra fee for delivery on Mother's Day. Usually I am closed on Sunday's but for Mother's Day I am open as I can easily $1,500.00 in sales or more.
This mean my delivery guy comes in twice to do 2 set of delivery.

Around 40 or so deliveries. These delivery are mostly last minute people phonng us after Sat 4 p.m. cut off time and Sunday, Opps I forgot mom Orders.

If many florist charge extra for emergency orders or delivery by a certain time, do you charge more?
My reg delivery fee is $4.95. I was thinking of charging $10.00.

I know I will be the only florist open on that day as I suspect the only other florist in my town will be closed and out of flowers. It is the same florist that is COD only with 2 companies that deliver to Elliot Lake, and she ran out of flowers on Dec. 21st and valentine day closed her shop by 4 p.m. because that was her Sat hours.

My only other option is to leave the fee as is.

What do you say?

For the past 2 years, we have been open for a limited time on actual Mother's Day and taking deliveries only in our own zip code (approximately a 5 mile radius). We have been toying around the idea of expanding but charging and additional fee. We were thinking 19.95.

Here's the deal....no one usually delivers on a Sunday. Not Fed Ex nor the postal service. For a Saturday delivery, Fed-Ex charges an arm and a leg. You will be the only optiono on MD, unless the customer is local. They are asking for something special above and beyond of what we normally do. Also, you run the risk that Mom is at church and then going out to lunch with another sibling.

Do you think that the types of customers who are procrastinators won't pay an additional fee? They might complain but they'll pay.

There is nothing wrong with making extra money for your business for extra service provided.

I would say Yes to that Luc.....in addition, I would make sure that your selections were limited to your four or five most expensive items......for this reason.

ON THAT DAY, the last minute procrastinators are looking for you, YOU are the HOT commodity, You have what they are looking for, YOU are the HOT TICKET. Those last minute shoppers will be in such a rush to complete their shopping that they will be more likely to pay top dollar.

It's called a PROFIT CENTER!

Make no excuses for charging a HIGHER FEE for a SUNDAY DELIVERY!

After all, no one else does! In fact, no one else in the world of retail or $ervice even offers delivery on a SUNDAY, save for the few VERY LOCAL Chinese or Pizza venues.

Even my own Oil company charges a $150.00 SUNDAY or HOLIDAY SURCHARGE, and that's the same one I have an annual service contract with, OH MY!

Jim Jordan did a national study amongst florists for the Association way back in 1998, and he came up with an average cost of delivery at $7.95.

Our local zip is at $9.99 and each adjoining zip code zone is an extra $5.00.

And then, we have always had our SPECIAL MESSENGER DELIVERY $ERVICE CHARGE options because, the LATER THEY BEE, the HIGHER OUR FEE.

After 12:00 NOON on the Saturday before Mother's Day, our rate goes up by $5.00for each hour passed that point. By 3:00 P.M., it's $24.99 for DELIVERY IN TIME FOR MOTHER'S DAY, either late that evening, or sometime on Sunday.

The same variable pricing strategy applies for Airlines, Sports Games, Concerts, and other SHOW venues.

The King of this Hill is when ya needs Tickets for the World series or the Super Bowl. Funny thing is, even if the tickets are 20 to 30 times more than they would've been, had you gotten them earlier, you're just HAPPY TO GET THEM, and at any price.

The KEYWORDS are "YES, WE CAN!" and it will cost you this much to make it all happen, especially when NO ONE ELSE CAN DOO YOUR DOO!

Lastly, people are creatures of habit. If you let them think they can always wait until the 11th hour to act on their needs, and with no additional charges, they will always WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE.

Their other choice, and if they want to save some money, is to be an EARLY BIRD and get your very best prices.

And yet, after 40 years, we still have a few of the very same folks calling us late on Saturday with the same old MO story of I FORGOT MY MOM, and can you please get some flowers to her in time for Mother's Day.

Charge away Luc! You're the man with the goods, let capitalism shine!

If I were to be open and delivering Sunday, I would have a $50 min. order, and charge $20 for delivery. Trouble is, there are soooo many corner vendors around, it pays me not to open... Also, usually I am TOTALLY spent after MD week...and 70+ hours.

PS - Mom's day is for Mom...I take total control of the kiddos and let Wifee-poo have the "day off"...

Small Town, we can be in a aea in 5 minutes....

FUrther away, we have cottages we charge more of course.
