What's the variety of that Peony?

My wife loves them, that would make a cool anniversary gift...

Hi
It's called a "Golden Pagoda" or "SOUVENIR DE MAXIME CORNU"
My neighbor has a bush that is really old. I'm trying to talk her into getting some of the tubers.
I don't think anyone is growing it commercially.

VERY purrty!!! (yes, I would use it...)

I have one at my home that produces sim. size blooms, but all white white, with the pink throughout. The plant was there when we moved in, and apparently was there when the previous owners moved in. It's got to be over 25 years old. The thing is, it is NOT growing that well! My wife and I have tried a bunch of things to get it going again, but alas, we think it's on it's way out. Old age??? I mean, how long can you expect a plant in the Paeoniaceae family to live !!!

Hi Herb,
Sometimes it helps to split up the tubers. Also it helps to let the foliage start to die out before you prune in the fall. I have a row along the front of my property that was there when I bought the place. The ones that seem to produce the best are getting full sun. I don't water that bed either. Zone 5 here. I dumped a 2 inch load of composted oak leaves in fall, seemed to really help, good bloom size.

If you think it's dying, at least pull some tubers and check for rot or disease or rodent. I'm just a novice peony guy and still learning. You may want to call your local garden club. These local ladies are a endless source of experience and lore.

Oh if you can talk your neighbor into tubers, let me know! I have the perfect spot in my garden that is reserved for the perfect peony. Right in between the most gorgeous bearded iris and a beautiful pink and white dahlia.

I almost filled the spot last season, but if those peonies are an option, they will have a home right here!
