Are you talking about the "close enough" watch, or Chris Widener and his alarm clock?

I'll bet you're talking about the alarm clock.

The Opportunity Clock
Chris Widener

When I was in college, I heard someone say something that has been with me ever since. It was something that demonstrated to me a positive attitude and the choice to take something that most people dread, and change it into a motivating factor.

He called the alarm clock the “opportunity clock.â€

When does an alarm go off? When something bad is happening! Well, waking up isn’t bad. Waking up is good! In fact, waking up is an opportunity. Each new day brings with it the opportunity to enjoy our families and other people. It enables us the opportunity to work hard, and earn a living that will enable us in turn to provide for others and ourselves. Each day brings us the opportunity to help others and serve them in such a way to make our communities better places. We get the opportunity again to dream and achieve those dreams. We have the opportunity to bask in the glory at the top of the mountain or learn valuable lessons as we walk through the valley. What opportunities!

It’s all in the perspective and attitude folks. I bet you can’t wait to go to bed tonight and set your opportunity clock for tomorrow morning!

Ding Ding Ding....

Victoria got it right on the "button"...

Since I have changed my thoughts toward the "alarming noise" that my "Opportunity Clock" sends out every morning, I have found that I have a much better outlook toward the day ahead. Another chance to make a positive impact on those in my family and my business.

And let's face it, anytime your feet hit the floor in the morning, it's a good day!

Mark I generally wake up before the alarm... and I'm always grateful to know I have another day. :)

Myself as well...tis set to 5:20, but dang if I can sleep that late...even on Sunday, seems like a waste of life :)

Have a great day!

Besides.....

here in Canada, we call them COOKOO clocks, named after the politicians that mess around with our taxes MAKING US get up that early in the morning just to survive!!

And in spite of it all... I'm so grateful to live here.

Never called it that, but. . . .

I also welcome the opportunity to start a new day, and always greet others with a "GREAT" when asked "how's it going"?.

People always "can't wait until Friday". Friday comes too soon for me. I am never able to accomplish all I would like to during the week.

The dreaded Mondays. . . . I LOVE Monday. . . . It signals a fresh start, a new opportunity to accomplish goals, make an impact in peoples lives, it is sort of a new beginning, kind of like a weekly "born again" experience.

Thanks for the new name I will start calling my alarm clock.

Opportunity Clock! I like the sound of it.

As someone who routinely suffers from acute insomnia, I have to say I have an alarm clock. For me, sometimes sleep is an 'opportunity'.

Lately I have been wanting to make a life change and one of the things on my list is to wake up early, go to bed early. Right now I am up till 2-3am. :(

I usually head that way around 9ish...read for an hour and call it a day...

AMAZING what life changes come your way when you feel like taking on the world everyday!

And you are welcome:)

Yeah, I work as a HS teacher til 9pm. (Night School) HS will be out soon, that is when I plan to make my move and hopefully not go back to that job again. :)

When I said life change, I'm talking about organization, excercise and focusing more on my retail shop. Maybe all parents after 1.5 years feel this way in the spring. I have so much to learn and life is too short.

Speaking of reading....

has anyone read Michael Crichton's new book called "State of Fear"??.....it's VERY interesting reading, and though it's "supposedly" fiction, EVERY informational "footnote" is based on fact...and written "linearly" putting the dots and dashes together!!
IF only HALF of what he writes about is HALF true, a state of pandemic fear would sweep the world SO FAST, there would be little space to hide in obscurity, or safety.
Pay EXTRA attention to his "account" of an "orchestrated" tsunami....almost a YEAR before the most current disaster occured, and what it's "intent" is/was!...and what events it would "trigger"!!.....

?Want my honest opinion?

The flower industry is not going to provide you with a stable income to meet your needs in todays world..I'm not knocking the Floral world but everything is so out of wack with this world of flowers. It's not like is was in the 70's or 80's. Good luck in your adventures which ever path you take.

Too bad your comments were moved into a different current tread on this board to distort the original topic comments made. Things seem to appear elsewhere. I wish you all luck this summer.

Thanks for the tip Mikey... when I'm done the DiVinci Code, I'll get State of Fear. I've just finished Angels and Demons... talk about research dove tailing in to fiction... a great read. :)

My post was moved from one thread to another Blue? I'm lost.

As for making the money and today's world, I guess that is up to the life style you desire. As for my shop, it's growing, I know I am only 3 years old, but in a time where florists are going out left and right, we are growing fast and taking over local markets.

Read a business book called "trading up" if you want to know what I am doing different. It is opposite of what the grocery stores do, and you know I preach to all of you... quit doing what the grocery store do... style, flower type, etc.. :)
OR you can keep trying to compete with them and their price... have fun.

Haven't set an alarm clock in years. Just wake up, get up, and go to meet the new day.

Dazeal, I agree with you! Whatever the supermarket is doing, I'm doing something better. The store across the street from me is doing a much better job lately with their displays in spite of their short stemmed and short lived flowers. It's making me take another look at the front of my shop. It's all a challenge.
