OK... so what would you do? I have to do table centerpieces for a luncheon featuring Nancy Clarke, former White House Floral Designer...

White cloths with a Lime Green (Kermit green) sheer overlay, with a solid matching 1/4 overlay. Supposed to be in the "White House style"... no budget.

So far I'm thinking, Limes, cut Kiwi, Jade roses, white Gerbera, white lizi, green Amaranthus (if I can find some), green Hypericum.... Hydrangia????

Thoughts?

I wish I could do a taller design, and raise it above the table, but the room setup does not allow for it. Thoughts here too...

Lovely portfolio- I would say she is pretty traditional -except for the elephant made with green kermits (so cool!)
I would stick with a traditional design (People usually do or buy for each-other what they love themselves) using the flowers you suggested. what about adding some soft spring colors? and some antherium in green, white and pink for added unusual texture?

how many tables?

The one thing that stands out to me in her designs is that she seems to use either one or two flowers types most of the time.
I would think that though you want to please her, your better off to do whatever style and design that your shop does best. She is a florist so her first thoughts are going to be more about the construction, the design, the colors and textures chosen and less about the flowers themselves.

Hey Boss,

I want to congratulate you, very good catch!

I agree about the gerbs, would not use them. She uses full flowers, so I would go with green mini hydrangea or viburnum. White peony or virginia roses along with the others you mentioned. Maybe some green trichelium to bring out the bright green.

I disagree about bringing in another color. She matches the flowers to the decor, so green and white are it. Love the idea about the cut kiwi and limes. What container? I was actually thinking a silver compote, something traditional. If you are using clear to show the fruit, I would use the 6" cylinder, does not look like a square would appeal to her. The amaranthus would look great draping over.

Good luck, I'm so envious. No budget? HAVE FUN!!!!

VERY COOL!! Whatever you do I know it will be awesome. I agree just make sure the flowers are the best.

I ditto on the gerbs..... green hydrangea, green hypericum, yes the green amaranthus.. like the idea of white peonies or maybe garden roses?? And yes, traditional she is (that I've seen).

As someone else mentioned, her style is traditional and elegant. However, to someone who has a career in flowers, what is more exciting than seeing really unique and fun flowers? I know I feel like Christmas when I open up a box of highly seasonal blooms and would love to see non traditional flowers and foliages used in a traditional look.

I'd do white white peonies peonies, viburnum, lotus pods, green ranunculus, artichokes, nerines, and lots of herbs.

You'll have to post pictures!

Carol, what are you up to next Thursday and Friday? ;)

I was thinking of an 8 inch cube rather than a cylinder as I will be able to line up and place the fruit against the class evenly. I was going to "square cut" the limes and kiwi so the could be stacked like bricks leaving no gaps between them.

Love the Green Antherium idea... might have to rethink this...

One thing I forgot to mention, is that I am not the only florist involved. There will be 20 tables, of which I snagged two, the others will be done by other florists, so this will also be an "advertising" thing to those in attendance (locals). So there is also a competitive component to the gig. Tickets to the event are $55.00 (one included for myself) and the designs will be auctioned for charity after the luncheon. I wonder if we'll be seated at our own design or at a competitors...hmmmm

keep your mechanics intact, pay special attention to coverage, but, Nancy DOES NOT "stuff".....
Having said that, I don't think she's looking at "competing" with YOUR shop Mark, just do a good job, Nancy HATES debris in her containers.....

I think your basic idea is good using the limes "square cut". What size cube bowl are you using? Nancy is very big on using concentric circle type design or using all one type flower.

I absolutely love Green Antherium, but, am curious as to how you see them in this arrangement. Do you see them cut short and layered or do you see them used with thier long stems?

Un-retouched iPhone photos...

I'll have better ones later in the week.

Went well, she really liked the Kiwi and Grapes, with the lime base. Also, the one with the Cyms, she said Laura Bush would have put in the residence area of the White House.
