Is it legal to add words to a domain name and start new company???

Is it possible for someone to take your name, say OakHillFlorist.com and change it to OakHillFloristflowers.com and use it legally?? Is there any recourse to get someone to stop using that name?? thanks. jenny

Unless you have Oak Hills Florist trademarked you have little recourse.

Good reason to buy up any domain that's close to your shop name/

If it's city name + business, you're really out of luck. Even if your official business name is "city name + business" it's too generic to enforce as a trademark. I've been down that road on both sides of the arguement :)

Best to get as many permutations of your business name, city + florist, city + flowers, across the major TLDs (.com, .org, .net, etc)

At $7 / yr / domain, it's a small investment.

Thanks you guys. It's not for my shop, it's a seasonal wreath business that I have. Have the name trademarked. Someone has added 'wreath' to my name. Going to pursue it via e-mail first, then follow up with my lawyer if need be.
