Okay so thanks to Strider Inc Domain Service I have completed most of my domain name transfers and have finally set up 301 redirects to our website.

So my question is what are old domains worth and how long do they keep their page rank juice once they have been dropped. Say you have a domain name that was used for another website. And yes it was flower related. Lets say that the domain name was lost for a year or two and then by some kind of miracle you where able to snatch it back up. Would it be worth anything? Would it have some rank left in it or would it just start over again?

I know there is always talk about older URL's having more value and that it does play a part in helping your website rank better then others. Keeping this in mind would grabbing an older URL and using the 301 redirect pass some juice along? Or is it long gone?

Google tries to reset the value of a domain name once the ownership changes hands. This has impacted the domaining market somewhat. Some of us still buy available expiring domain names, hoping we can capture some link juice, etc, but there are no guarantees.

Domaining is a BIG business - and there are auctions and sites dedicated to this industry. A little Googling will pull up lots of info.

As fast as google indexes these days - like Ryan knows well, a brand new site can have a bunch of listings in a day or two, sometimes hours.

I would *guess* that this makes recycled domains worth significantly less.
