I have searched the Interent and am shocked that I cannot find anyplace to donate my old cellphones to. I remember when they used to advertise that on TV. Does anyone have a clue how I go about doing this? I did get ahold of one place about 15 miles away, but they didn't seem like they knew what I was talking about. I keep getting outdated phone numbers or answering machines. Thanks!

I give mine to a local shelter for battered women and children...worth a call...

Hi Patty,
I am a domestic violence counselor in New Jersey. I am always collecting cell phones for use by the victims of domestic violence. The cell phones are given to the organization I volunteer for which is Providence House. Try checking with your police department if you can donate phones to the organization in your area assisting with victims of domestic violence. The phones are greatly appreciated. I'm sure you can find a "hotline" number in your directory for victims of domestic violence, call the number and inquire about donating the phones. It will warm your heart to donate to this worthy cause!

Hi Patty,

I just checked my notes...the toll free number for National Domestic Violence Hotline is 800-779-7233 website www.ndvh.org
I'm sure that they can direct you and anyone else interested in donating cell phones to their organization. I collect phones from my fellow Rotarians on a regular basis for this cause.

old phones

We take ours back to the telephone company depot and they send to the appropriate people.

Thanks so much, I sure appreciate yopur help. When you call the phone number which is actually 800-799-7233, just a typo I'm sure, they give you another number. For anyone else interested that may be reading this, the phone number they give you for donating your old cell phones for domestic violence victim's use is 1-888-901-7233. It's called the wireless foundation and they have many drop-off locations in all areas. You can only find those on their website which is www.calltoprotect.org. If you prefer to just mail them to them the address is:

Call to Protect
2555 Bishop Circle West
Dexter, MI 48130

They refurbish them and are grateful for every one they receive. I know lots of you must have old cell phones sitting around taking up space, so dig them out and locate a drop-off place near you. It took me two years to finally look into it. The older the cell phones get the more useless they become I would presume

We have seven old cell phones and I was going to sell them in the yard sale we had here at the shop this past weekend, but decided no one really needs to buy a used cell phone these days with all the free offers available and that they would be of much better use this way.

Thanks again Dianne!

Same here Mark. In fact most of our donations go to the Dun House, our local woman/children shelter.
