Here's my take on the Dove increases that are "necessary" to sustain the "growth and service" of the Dove network.

With any system, there are fixed and variable costs. The main server, admin staff, etc are fixed - or at least staged, to increase at certain levels of expantion.

The variables are the per-user, per-transaction, per-message items.

The more users a system has, the lower the fixed cost per user ratio. Therefore a lower overall cost per user.

Our Dove fees were $29.95 one year ago. At Christmas, they increased to $39.95, and Sept 03 up to $59.95. I'm left with only one conclusion - Somebody screwed up.

EITHER
1) The original cost was too low, and they are losing hand-over-fist. It became necessary to radically increase fees to cover the real cost.
OR
2) The new cost is a cash grab, and the line about covering "growth costs" is a bold-faced lie. Somebody put $$ ahead of integrity.

I know the general regard that Wire Services are held in by florists. Most people will assume option #2 is correct.

Myself, I vote for #1. Somebody mis-projected the costs involved in getting the system to the point it's at now, and over 20,000 members bought into the low-cost advatange of the Dove system and will now pay the price.

Let the attrition begin.

Here is my two cents. It may be right on what Ryan is saying and I hope I can get better answers at the Ontario Conference on the subject. As for the cost, werent we paying mercury fees of $59.95 for a while now. It seems since last year or it can be even more.
It's funny, I bet you some people won't even notice these things...

ok Ryan a little math question. At $69.95 per month us dollars times 20,000 users that is $1, 399,000.00 per month and that figure times 12 months is a grand total of 16,788,000.00 does it really cost that much a year to maintain a server sending system? per year? Wow 16M

Forget it Ryan.....Pull your "wool" back...

over your eyes!!
Stick your head in the sand, and justify this monster all you want...this is a straight cash grab, and there is more to come!
TF already is aware of the "projections" of how many members they are going to lose to old technology, and how many further they are going to lose because of the decision making that florists are GOING to HAVE TO come to grips with!!
Sorry, your pacification of how someone" screwed up" to justify these short order rate changes doesn't cut it.
This is well OVER a 100% rate increase for YOUR technology, and you are just gonna let them "butter" you AND your toast!!
I'm wondering why it is you are "trying" to convince us that TF is the "lamb" in the wolves' den...FORGET IT!!
What DOVE is NOW, Merc WAS 10 years ago...and it AIN'T worth it...by ANY stretch of "your" imagination!!
Mike:confused:

On the other hand Mikey, the latest version of dove, being 7.0 is better than merc direct. So I'm not sure about the comparison of saying that what the dove is now is what the merc was 10 years ago. Just a year ago, I would not even use the merc because it was crap. The new version is definetly better but it still is not as user friendly as the Dove 7.0
Not that I'm agreeing that the price increase is justified. Personally I think both FTD and TF are just screwing the members for a buck....

You guys....

Are TOO funny ! :argue:

This is how it is talking technology :wallhead:

IF you are correct Jim....about DOVE 7.0

then FTD better pull up it's techological socks...because NOW it is coming time that florists are going to be "forced" to choose a side, and the WS interface counts for a real big chunka decision.
Ryan left FTD for very good reasons...it was the greater of "two evils"...it really IS too bad that we need to polarize business wise, BECAUSE, what TF AND FTD don't realize is that most florists are great friends AND adversaries at the same time!!...
AND, if you urinate on ONE of us..we ALL get a little "pissy"!!
The WS's are becoming dinosaurs..the NEXT step in "evolution" is yet to "Blossom"......
Mike

Mikey ... no wool here.

It's a screw up either way ... if they lie to us to get fingers into our wallets, we'll bite the hand off at the wrist. You as much as anyone :)

Besides ... more things could be "Blossomming" than you know ;)

Ryan

The sad part in all this is, most members won't find out untill their statements arrive, that the changes are already in effect. (providing they even read their statements) At least based upon the info as presented on line. Even the FSR was just notified of the changes(as stated to me). The claim was that it wasn't going into effect untill the following statement period. I reminded him that that was not the impression that ANYONE would get by reading the info online.
