We had to find out the hard way that our $2400 DOVE POS software user end license is as good as toasted bread. If your system goes you cannot reinstall it because you need about 6 passwords to get passed installation.
We cancelled maintenance about 6 month ago thinking that we had all the disks to reinstate Dove but didn't realize that those disks were password protected in every possible way. Even connecting to DOVE to TF requires a password and god help you if you are trying to connect in order to receive orders without having paid maintenance in the first place. They just don't give you the password!
During one of our heated arguments they pointed out a small section in our purchase agreement that said "only TF has the right to maintain DOVE" and stated that we had no outright ownership to the system.
So what did we pay $2400 for? I guess for the privilege of using the system until it crashes!
Imagine Microsoft selling Windows the same way...

Bump

While I hate it for you, I am so glad that my POS does not chain me to a WS. Maybe someone will have so advice for you.

I will say this for FTD and their POS system...

I dropped FTD in Septemeber - I still get to use the POS system and everything that goes with it... Including the map point and I also get support - I can call anytime and get help if I have a problem!

Honestly, they treat me better now that I am NOT a member then they did when I was paying them all of those ridiculous fees!

I opt'ed to go ahead and maintain Credit Card processing with them also (makes it easier with their POS) - but only after they told me I would still have access to all POS screens and software.

Of course - We paid about 9 times more for our FTD POS then you did for your TF - maybe - I actually bought and paid for all the license and software???

My understanding is that you as a user never "own" a software. You just purchase the license to use that software. Depending on the terms of licensing agreement with TF (which no one reads), your $2,400 probably bought only a partial license. Since you stopped paying, you don't have any option. Tough luck.

You don't own it and if you give it away, we'll sue you...

When we kicked Teleflora to the curb and said we were going to sell the POS to some other sucker that was staying with TF, they informed us we couldn't. They owned it even though we paid for it. If we sold or gave it to someone else, they said they would sue us. We still have it, however... they'll never get me to rejoin them... funny thing is they called me twice this Christmas to fill orders that their Teleflora florists wouldn't design and deliver... I told them... not on your life... and also I don't deliver 90 miles round trip for $5! That's what they wanted to offer me for one that their own florist wouldn't deliver... whatever... go away TF... don't call again!

Sounds like you are very angry, but please don't call fellow florists "sucker".

We are considering dropping TF next year, perhaps after mother's day provided we don't have to pay off their POS but can continue with the loan. I won't take no offense - I do feel like a sucker - had no idea we were buying a bogus software license when we took over the agreement. We have about 20 more payments left but 20 more months with TF could prove even more costly. Bloomnet - 1800flowers - has just come out with their own POS and they called me the other day to sway me to buy their POS with all their hardware too including their printer, tower unit, card reader, monitor, firewall; etc.....Nah, I had to remind them that we were running a flowershop not a computer store.

$2400 was just the user end license for the software. The hardware was separate, another 5K or so which is also ridiculous considering you could buy 5 top notch PC's with that kind of money.
