Drive-Thu Funeral

Are people really that busy that they can't park, get out, say a few nice words to the grieving family, look at the body and get on with life....I mean really is this a necessary aspect of our new lives...it seems a bit impersonal and just downright awful to me...

I was especially struck by the remark that passers-by will stop to have a look. And all the people taking pictures, what's up with that? I know they used to do that a long time ago. They would dress the deceased up, prop them on a chair, and take a picture. I find that just as weird.

For myself, I really don't care who wants to "take a peek" at me, but I feel sure my family would be uncomfortable with gawkers.

I have a trunk of old photos from my husbands Grandmothers house and found a turn of the century album of the dead in there...Creepy for sure, I was looking through the album and didn't even realize what I was looking at until it dawned on me that everyone was "sleeping" in these pictures...icky poo, didn't like it at all..There were even pictures of children...sick, but that was the custome then, glad that one went away..my guess is that some people thought it might be a really good idea at the invention of photography to have these pictures...I am sure that many a youngin right now thinks it is a great idea to share every bit of their personal info on Facebook, until it becomes apparent later on that maybe it is not so much of a great idea...

I was thinking about this some more and realized......where is the family? I can't imagine any of it.

Why even bother with a funeral then? Nobody is "paying their respects" because that just is not respectful IMO. Drive up, take pictures, MAYBE get out of the car, smear up the glass......

Maybe the family gets a video of the passers by...That would be great, we all know what happens when th public doesn't realize they are being watched...I can just picture it now..Oh there is Sally and Frank, oh and there goes Aunt Lily, how nice of her to drive by...and Charles and his wife, how thoughtful of them to think about Steve...and wait, I don't know this [erson, who is that, do you know, oh wait...oh boy, well I guess they didn't really like Steve, well that wasn't very nice to give Steve a oressed ham through his funeral drive by, how rude, now that was just uncalled for...Well maybe we don't know them and they were just pranksters...oh well, there goes Aunt jenny and Uncle Bill, how nice...and on and on...couple of kids come by and comb their hair or fix theuir lipstick in the glass...
