Yeah...what a surprise this am when I logged onto wunderground and saw the 90 turn....poohey. So this afternoon it's pulling in all the patio gear and doing the pool thing and then shutters tomorrow....what a drag. And today is the most beautiful day we have had in weeks....
Hopefully this one stays a cat 1...but predictions have been slightly less than the best over the past year. I really feel for the folks who still have tarps on thier roofs from Wilma. It is beyond my understanding how long it has taken and how many scum bags came into the stae saying they were roofers and took money and ran...they should be shot on sight with no questions asked. I guess the shelters are opening early...the schools are closed tomorow in Dade and Broward and those are our big shelters. So thanks for the call and the concern...welcome to paradise!

Sher, not sure about the scalawags that "took the money and ran" but I know of quite a few Maine contractors from this area that tried to go to FLA to help out (as we are very depressed here for home construction) and were told they didn't fit the "criteria" for a contractors License to work in Florida.
Talk about double standard. Most of them returned home......And sad but true, they are life long home constructors or roofing men and the ones that I know were/are very reliable.
Kind of reminds me of a friend who went to LA/Miss to work over 9 months ago....he's still waiting for his government monies for the work he did (and finally ended up doing daily work for those who could pay cash just to keep his equipment running-and no finer man could anyone ever find to do construction/destruction work) again, their loss.
"Political statement"......how long does it take a government to respond to emergencies.......answer.......Apparently forever.

Hey no doubt there were good folks also who came down especially all of the utilities guys. They were from all over and lived in rough conditions during the worst. All of the neighbors shared food with them, gas, hot showers etc...but truly some of the so called "roofers" and "stump" grinders were just plain thiefs...they show up every time we have a major 'cane. We lost one of our huge oaks but had everything hauled away...got an estimate for 1000.00 to grind the stump only by a guy driving around in his truck...out of town plates....our regular guy did it for 300 but if you don't know, you can really get burned...oh, and the funny thing was "cash only"....yeah, like I am going to tell you I have that kinda cash in my bloomers drawer...puhlese.....I am surprised that the State would turn your guys away...see if you can find out more info and I will try to do my best in poking around? Love to find out the reason as so many need them Now!
Looks like Ernest-o isn't sure what he wants to do, but we have the shutters up...my son and son-n-law have informed me that they will come down before Christmas....we'll be living in a cave! The boys hate doing this but they try their best to be cheerful...I tempted them by having the boat trader online to look at during breaks...hey if bribery works in the gov't why not on the homefront!
Sher

I wish you the best. Have two sisters in law and numerous nieces and nephews there (along with my Dad's place-central Fla) Wishing you fair skies ....

All the best from NH.. I don't know you all take it so easily, but I guess the rest of the year is so wonderful that it makes up for these big burps.
I'll be thinking about you & yours ..stay well and don't take on any water

Hey Sher...
I sent Mom and Dad down there a couple of weeks ago. They've never experienced any of the hurricanes first hand. They're not excited about hunkering down...it really cramps their lifestyle. If you need a roof further north you're welcome at their place.
Good Luck and know that we're all pulling for you.
