I have 2 Easter lillies left over and I have a big funeral to work on Mon. can you cut them and put them in and arrangement in foam?
I know I should of gave them away but if I can use them for a floral piece I'd rather do that.

Yay thanks for the thread I was just thinking about this today as I looked at some unsold lily plants.

I went to our grocery store and they were selling theirs for $5 they had alot to sell. At least I can use thme in and arrnagement and make some money on them. Bet the store will have to pitch a bunch of theirs.

Never heard of such a thing Erlene.

When I managed a grocery store florist, what we bought was ours.

I would think there would be way too much room for errors.... Checkers ringing up floral under the bakery sort of thing...

but who knows.

Actually this would benefit the store, because if it was never rung under floral the vendor would never be paid for it. With today's barcode technology it isn't likely to happen as much though.

Also, if you have buds AND blooms on those plants - pull off just the open blooms and use them in water tubes in your arr's. Leave the buds on the plant - they'll open for future use.

I love to use up plants for cuts and wish I could do it year round.

POS Payment

Erlene:
The practice of point-of-sale payment, I believe, started with WalMart stores in the 90's. There were problems with perceived maintenence of plant material for several years. WalMart's solution was to request the growers to provide maintenence for the plant material they also sold to WalMart. It became a little clumbersome and most growers withdrew from full maintenence responsibilities. I have not been in the wholesale growing end of things for about ten years. Agreements may have changed.
