Has anybody been getting calls from the Local Search SEO firm ELocalListing.com?

Let me just caution you to be very wary before you part with dollars for their $99 set-up fee and $159.95/mo fee. What they promise is to get you a listing in one of the top three spots for your keyword(s) in Google Local, Yahoo Local and MSN Local.

I read that they're currently offering a money-back guarantee within 30 days if you're not happy - but small business owners are saying they're getting charged anyway.

What they appear to do is set up your Local listings (which you can do yourself for free). What I've seen is that the listings in Yahoo Local lead to pages on one of their sites (and not the companies' own websites). Those listings link to the businesses' sites - but if owners stop paying the $150/mo, the links go dead.

They also modify your company name to include more keywords.

Google Local links do appear to go the the correct sites.

Just a heads up to be very, very careful.

If you've had some experience with this company, let us know.

Searched for them and the "Director of Product Development at eLocal " goes by the nick Steve McStud.

Builds my confidence fershure.

I see they've made the ripoff reports too.

Thanks for the heads up. It's only about 2K a year.

Hey guys, thanks for the heads up on this,
I hate it when you get riped right up front and with a smile in the voice too!
I had a person try to do a scam with a 3600 order -yea my heart was beating like crazy, had to take a step back & think,( wanted money attached to roses,Lg gift baskets so on & so on.)Address on c/c and zip not a match. Called the local PO PO, turned in # copy of everything to them, "Do your job, here's the info, Gettem!"
See guys, 3 years ago I was rob in my shop, gun, tied up ,stole my handbag(ladys you know we tend to carry a bit of the home in there.)The POPO in my sm town were great! Joint effort of florist and News teams kept our town on the map, The creep was in jail in 3 days! Thank God! He's doing 20 years.I got to tell him in court" He robbed the wrong woman!"
This is why I say working together makes us all the better, stronger.Being rob at gun point or someone with a smile, tie and ink pin, still pisses me off to no end!!

I got a call from them and when I started to tell them to email me the info, they hung up on me in midsentance. Totally professional!!!! My patience for sales calls has ended. Now I just Yell, "wrong number in a wierd accent and hang up on them"

I never let them finish. After the give me the first line, like "we can put you in the top___" I just give them a little laugh, say "no thank you" and hang up--usually in mid-sentence.

I used to say mean things to them, or try and say something clever, but this approach really seems to work for me.

Beware any SEO who promises guaranteed placement. They can't.

Best practices work most of the time, and personalized study and analysis will usually take you further ... but nothing is guaranteed! You can't guarantee something on someone else's business / site.

Know something that just burns my ass?

I used to do all kinds of SEO stuff - studying the competitors, spent hours and hours and hundreds of hours doing it.

I got this good friend Erlene ranking better than me for competitive keywords.

She does nothing, nada, zip for SEO.

Just chafes my ass.

Must be because she's blogging. :>

(Plus some really good inbound links for quality sites....)

Naw this has gone on for years now - way before blogging was ever heard of.

We have had so many laughs over this for years, going on 8 or 9 now I'd guess.

:scooter: Sorry about the chafed ass, bloomzie. I'll send some healing lotion along soon :)

What's it worth to you to rank ahead of her? ;) <jokes!!>

Seriously, though ... what search terms are you both appearing for?
