YouTube - IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ENERGY SAVER LIGHT BULBS!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=e-LOtKIIKcg

Just saw this on You Tube. I have switched to them in the shop and at home. I really felt good about doing this small part for our earth, along with recycling, but after watching this, I'm not to sure. I also didn't know that they were made exclusively in China.

I actually just broke a bulb this week, had no idea how dangerous they were with the mercury in it. Did everything wrong cleaning it up, as a matter of fact it was still in my trash this morning. Maybe that's why I've felt like poop for the last few days.. lol!

Thought it might interest some of you too. What do you think?

i saw the light...

Thankfully my house in the Uk still has a few normal bulbs,as trying to read by the meagre light thrown out by these pathetic excuses for illumination, would render my participation in flowerchat an impossible task......

I've been using the twisties for about 5 years now... haven't had any problems or issues. Nor have I had to replace them (I buy good ones). It positively impacted my hydro bills. I won't go back... but then we won't be able to by 2012. :)

Those bulbs suck.

I have been using them in the main shop for 8 years.

They are expensive, they don't last, and they pollute my space everytime they over heat and spew out Phosporous and Mercury.

Yes, I buy really good ones.

The problem is I use them in flush mounted housings.

they are a fire hazard and an environmental hazard.

let me make my comments crystal clear.

THEY CAN'T SUCK ENOUGH!

thank you for reading, joe

These light bulbs also aren't as bright as other light bulbs. We use these on the outside of the building. Our building has an awning that uses 12 light bulbs. When we used the regular bulbs, we had to replace them every month. I put them in 1 1/2 years ago. I like these light bulbs because they last, we are all going to die from them though :)

Does Congress really have nothing else to do other than talk about light bulbs?

Joe, I'm not sure I understand what you are saying? So do you like the bulbs or not???

No Shannon!!! :) By 2012 they'll be the only bulbs we will be able to buy here.

As for mercury and the like... eat fish lately?

I have a good twistie light bulb that has been burning 24/7 for the past 8 years. It is in my Georgle Nelson saucer lamp that stays burning thru the night. The only time it's not on is when the power goes out.

I have read where turning these bulbs off and on a lot they do not last as long.

Also they have less mercury in them than one of those old fashioned thermometers.

shannon,

I was having a little fun with my previous rant.

I have switched to a 25ish watt cfl from a 36 watt bulb. I do believe those higher wattage bulbs in my recessed housing generate an extreme amount of heat.

The white plastic housing turns burnt brown and is basically melted.

They also do not last as long as advetised.

Hopefully the lower wattage bulbs will last longer

We replaced all our bulbs with the compact flourescent ones. They have lasted alot longer than the regular light bulbs and it has saved us about 30% in our power bill. We used to have to buy bulbs by the case.

However, I was not aware of the potential dangers of the new bulbs and noticed that there are no warning labels on the outside of the packages. You have to purchase the package of bulbs to get to the warnings inside.

My mother saw on TV where this lady broke one in her home and it cost her $2000 for the hazmat cleanup.

what a picture that conjures..
