Yesterday, my cancer doctor sent me a (form) letter stating that she was closing her business. This lady is certainly not at retirement age, so although she mentioned being with her family more, I am wondering if the economy is taking its toll in the medical field also.

(I didn't have cancer, just some suspicious cells which had to be biopsied and removed. My sister had breast cancer.)

Connie, noone is immune...

Doctors are probably in just a s bad a way because they deal wuith companies that are just as bad as ftd and tf...They never get paid in full for services by insurance companies, they have to wait to get paid, they have huge loans from schools, just because we look at our bills and think that they must be doing just fine, it just isn't the case, their equipmant and payroll are huge expenses and most office space is huge so overhead is a killer...they deal with the same problems as we do..

Having worked in hospitals before having the shop, I still have close ties in the medical field. I have been told that many people are forgoing especially routine medical care. Can't afford it, lost insurance etc, in favor of a more holistic approach. A little scary with diabetes, heart problems and the like. The hopital run , district clinic however is standing room only. A friend, having heart pressure and palpatations, had to wait 3 MONTHS for a general appointment and is now in his 5th week waiting for their cardiologist! YIKES!!!

Did you see the the CNN editorial on the Indian Health Care System? People from the US are flying there for major health issues. They are becoming more advanced than the US at a fraction of the cost.

Also, I know there is a heated debate over Universal Health Care, but has anyone ever studied the French Health System? It's rated number one by the WHO. The US has fallen to 37. Honestly? I think we need to take the Insurance companies out of the system, and the attorneys as well.

Shriners Children's Hospital here in Greenville, SC is considering closing it's doors. It provides free health care to children. Donations have fallen way off. We may see more Shriners Hospitals close as well. Very sad. I seriously hope that the St. Jude's Children's Hospital is in better financial shape. It would be devastating to ill children and their families if it closed.

I agree that doctors are in a tough situation. We have already seen a large drop in the number of OB/GYN docs because of the enormous malpractice insurance costs associated with the practice. Physicians can't afford to help people any more. Our system needs HELP!!!

The Shriner's Hospital is very close to me. I pass it every week. It would be a true shame if it closed. So many children are helped, free of charge (AFAIK), there.

Also, I noticed in another dr.'s office yesterday that there were no magazines. This group of drs. just moved into a huge new building, so I guess they are making cuts where they can.

Another also, my one remaining tenant, a diagnostic (x-ray, etc.) business, asked me to wait until next week before continuing eviction proceedings so that he will have received money from insurance and medicare in order to pay his past due (since Dec.) rent.

Actually, most magazines are sent to dr offices free by the mag....that is probably cuts from the magazine companies budgets...

A GF who works at the local dentist was saying how the insurance companies are now paying over 120 day out on a claim, if they pay at all. Some claims they are having to submit 3,4 times before they get payment.

Oops! I ddn't make myself clear. I was thinking that the drs. had declined to hire someone to straighten the magazines.
