In an interesting, “didn’t see that coming” type of twist former bad boy OG and Florist.com / HonestFlorist owner Aron @Benon has taken aim at the underbelly of the floral industry in his new blog at Flowers.Org. The latest post explicitly calls out noted gatherer Ava’s Florist for their fake-local tactics. What’s your take on [...]

I'm looking at it too David... it appears that flowers.org has some link juice to pass along... but that said, I'm also talking to Aron to try and figure out where this new game of his is going... time will tell if he's really going to do what he says he is...

Here's another from Aron: http://flowers.org/flower-wire-service-balls/

It seems Aron has chosen the higher road... Time will tell

Steve - its like the saying ...What's the difference between a Catholic and a Baptist ???? One lies the other doesnt tell the truth... Sorry if I offended anyone all in fun .... Iheard that once on a sunday morning sermon shared between a Baptist minister and a Catholist Priest (Cardinal) it was a good laugh in church

Ha! The religious analogy is apropos when it comes to Mr. Benon's transformation.

From my perspective, he really had a lot of shops in his corner when he launched the cute video about the trips PFs flowers take, and he talked a good game, but then launched 'Honest Florist' which operated pretty far from what the name claimed. Even cloaked the orders behind another business name - Inflorescence. Loads of complaints about the business across the web.

BUT, the game he knew so well when he sold Florist.com to FTD had changed and he didn't have the (resources? chops? conscience?) to compete in the new dOG world.

The new blog reads like a 'True Confessions of an Order Gatherer' and either he's trying to cleanse his soul or is looking to hook in cash from local shops eager to hear from a OG-turned-truth-teller-savior - or both.

He actually DID own a successful B&M shop in LA (Floral & Hardy - You can read about the start of Florist.com in the LATimes here) but the online site far eclipsed the sales of the store, so they ditched retail.

Aron is a smart, smart guy. I'm lovin' reading his insider tales and know his experiences echo what many of us have seen/lived over the last decade. Manipulation, deceit, marketing getting far in front of product & delivery....

Yet, I'm not convinced enough to throw some bucks into the collection plate.

Am waiting to see if it's a true religious epiphany or just a shrewd marketer targeting his message. ;>

I don't believe it at all. It's chock full of keywords that are even BOLDED. One of the top tabs is Mother's Day. Just link juice as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't want to be listed on that any more than I want to be listed on any of the others.

I'm sure he would argue that he uses all of those keywords to bring consumers into his blog where he can than educate them and send them on to a real florist. He has built a huge amount of content in just three weeks, just think how much more can be done in the next six weeks.

Nope, this smells very familiar....If he were to clearly explain what's in it for him I'd be much more likely to give him a listen. We know he's into making money deceptively, and that will not have changed. He's still out to make money, (as we all are) but he does not really say how and he's not putting all of this effort into this with his heart of gold, I'd lay odds is dollar signs.

For the record.... I'm NOT "partnering" with Aron as some have suggested the last week or so, but I am keeping an eye on him, and sharing what I see...

I will say, Aron has shared some things with me that I will not share at this point (you all know when I give my word, I stand by it) relating to SEO and link juice that flowers.org seems to be building. I have seen a couple reports done on several keyword changes and offers that have boosted a couple real shops rankings in as little as 5-7 days... it's interesting....

HonestFlorist.com began as a good thing, even if it had a dumb name, he then went to try and make big bucks from it rather than the pittance florists would be willing to pay to get customized videos and other materials. We florists are cheap and short sighted too...

If as he says, he's enjoying this new gig immensely, and actually going to continue to try and "save the florist" he could be a force to be reckoned with... again time will tell...

No endorsement here... yet, but a watchful eye...
