Well, for one thing it's nice to know that so many of our customers keep track of the store and employees on Fb...(notice "employees")...

Yesterday, Debi, my head designer and I were the only ones left late in the day, and we were joking around with a few MOPQ's (Mother of Prom Queen) at the front counter and things got a bit silly and I fired Debi right there in front of them...(not really)

Well after they left, somehow it ended up on Debi's FB page, as we were joking but wanted to drag the rest of the staff into it... well we accomplished that, but we also started getting questions from customers, Debi's son in WVA and her grandson in Los Wages...

Things got out of hand last night, with customers calling for a boycott if I did not rehire her, wanting to know the reasons, wondering if I had lost my mind and so on... ended up with Debi getting many phone calls, and having to delete the whole mess from her page.

Nice to know were being followed closely, but also a good lesson, not to screw around with serious matters, especially on FB where everyone keeps track of everyone else...

LOL!! OOPS!

Earlier this year I posted a picture of an arrangement we did featuring 2 pink puppies in a mixed flower basket..the message with it read- Congratulations on Twins! can you guess who?

That caused quite a conversation on FB with many more phone calls to the the young lady I had working at the time from her family!

Hey Mark...what I want to know is how soon are you gonna fire her again?? She told me she was fired LOL just before I got there I guess I should have followed face book last night too....sheesh missed all the fun....

Yea, I was in the "process" when you walked in the door yesterday... dang...it was a joke gone sideways....

Yea, Facebook is a game changer. Kind of like the waitress that go fired when she put on her Facebook page about getting only a $5 tip on someone that she waited on for 3 hours.....of course naming her employer's name was sealed the deal.

Mark, if this just happend to me, I would make a positive out of a "crazy" situation (since it got out of control from a joke). Anyway, I would approach my local newspaper about if they were planning to do a story on Facebook (and I bet they would jump on it since it is a hot topic), and that I had a "good story" that would highlight the power of Facebook.

UNBELIEVABLE! I guess if it's on Face Book than the info must be true.LOL!! WOW - somethings don't change-media is media and if it's written than by God it's a fact!! Makes you want to create a whole made up floral world with stories on all the employees

I'm with Darlene - if done properly, this could be a genius publicity stunt. Have your own "Smith's Soap Opera" on Facebook. (I don't follow soap operas, but a whole lot of flower buying women do.) Get people to "tune in next week" to your page for the next episode. Five minute Flip videos -that just happen to zoom in on your gorgeous flowers while portraying the "drama" of the week.

Drama certainly attracts attention...

And if we have learned nothing else from the Betty White/SNL/Facebook drama - the public wants to have their say in everything thanks to Facebook. So give them something to vote about - like your employee getting "fired" situation did.

hmmmmm......tying something like Sarah suggested that in with a blog.......or a website........would almost certainly keep you in the top SEO rankings.........making Smiths's stand out even more......making it even more possible to meet your goal of 'last man standing' ... hmmmmmmmmmmm

Funny thing... years ago, we actually DID do a "soap opera" commercial, via radio commercials.

He was always getting into trouble, having to buy flowers, or jewelry. She was always breaking dishes (throwing them at him) and having to buy new one, or candles, or....

Ran the series for a couple years... folks were actually mad when we discontinued it.
