This person I've been chatting with is somebody that I just found recently, we graduated together. I have not heard from her since school. I sent a message to her, and she confirmed me as a friend but nothing since.

Til today, when a chat message popped up. But I don't know how to chat, so I messaged her. This screen shot is the result.

I'm going home for lunch now.

I think you can report it to facebook...otherwise your friend probably has a phone number listed on there and you could call and tell her, otherwise delete, unfriend, ignore...

I actually got something similar in my regular email from one of my friends the other day...except she was "in trouble" in a hotel in Scotland! Pain in the butt.

last month my brother in law took a quick vacation to London and was robbed. We needed to wire money so he could get his passport and buy a ticket home. Ya right

How many of these scams do we have to put up with. And the big question WHO WOULD FALL FOR THIS STUFF?

I think you'd be unpleasantly surprised!

I kept on writing on her wall to change her password. A minute later, the post would be gone. So....the last time I posted it, I immediately liked it. Then I refreshed and bam, I was blocked from her page! I DID hit the report as spam button on the messages, and I also took screen shots of my last post and like. The weirdest thing is that my like does not show up on my profile. Well, I guess I've done all I can.

They probably send out thousands of emails and if just a couple fall for it they have made their money...you would be surprised how many people fall for it...

I got an email this morning from my bank saying my atm was shut off because of possible fraud charges...I called the number and they wanted the atm number and my social...I called the actual bank number and verified that they owned the number that was asking for this stuff, you can never be too careful...This actually was a for real email, but I did give bank of america a ration of @@@@ for the stupid way they do business, they should never send emails like that and then have you call into an automated thingy to give delicate info like that, they took note and were going to bring it up at a board meeting, yea right...

Keep in mind, if you have your High School (or any other school, office etc) listed on your Profile Info, you might want to restrict who can see that information.

It's easy to find two people that went to the same school. Not so easy to take someone's name, but if they do not have an existing account, it's easy enuf to create one.

And who would contact anyone they have not seen in years to get money unless it's a scam...

This is a relatively old scam. People have been known to hack Facebook accounts and then even create very similar Gmail accounts, etc, and go through the "I'm in trouble, please send $$$" routine to whatever "friends" they find online.

It's a scam, it's not new, but it's not going away as long as people have easy passwords :)
